It was colder than ten cold things in our room last night! I woke up several times to roll over and try to get warm. I was seriously considering snuggling with Sarah, who was very close to me. It was COLD! Recently, my alarm clock decided to not turn back on if I hit the snooze button. When I woke up to shower, I fell back asleep for a bit, then showered. Yes, I burned my skin off trying to get warm, then crawled back into bed to warm up more, and fell back asleep, for a few hours.
Sarah, Beth and I went to town and played at the bookstore. I’m almost done with my book, so buying a new one was greatly exciting. Then we got Anne, returned a van, ran errands, went to Target. Now, Sarah and I are compiling a list of things we should not be allowed to do together. Sitting together at church is the only one. The other is shopping. I’m not a big shopper, but it was sort of fun with her. We’re both freaks sometimes and like to have fun. It’s a bonus that we’re almost, or mostly, the same size and often have similar taste. I’ve never enjoyed shopping like that before. We bought matching orange trousers! (Turns out, in the UK, “pants” are men’s underwear, and “trousers” are proper pants.) So fun! But she has runner’s thighs that are much trimmer than mine, but with a bit of a fuller bum. I have much larger thighs and no waist, so they always fit funny. I’m going to have to do some alterations tomorrow, I think. Did I mention it was a SUPER-Target?
Then I worked. Did some advancing and packing and whatnot. Laundry. We hit the road tomorrow! Yea!
We had staff night out, which was loads of fun. Dinner with Jack at TGI Fridays. Then a movie. Robert and I saw Rambo! I’ve been wanting to see it since Talledega! About 10 minutes after we got out, Florence and Prossy came out of their movie. The movie the others were in wasn’t set to get out for another 40 minutes. So we wandered down to K-mart, the only thing close enough to walk to, and they made fun of my dancing and we chatted and a whole lot of nothing.
The downer of the day was a phone call Rachel got during dinner. A friend of hers is terminally ill, and she was planning on going home to spend some days with him on Saturday. Turns out she didn’t make it. She burst into tears and the only thing we could do was pray. She’ll be flying out tomorrow. It was a very clear reminder of when I got a similar call a few weeks back, and about how all the late-night calls and text messages make me nervous for that. And a great reminder of the brevity of life and how to love well and the importance of community.
