Today we got up, ate breakfast, packed the suburban and drove down to the falls. We found parking at Queen Victoria Station Gift shop for only $10 for an hour. It was an easy walk to the falls. We took pictures, struck up several conversations, watched the Maid of the Mist boats and bought souvenirs. It was a travel day to get us from Niagara Falls to Richfield Springs, NY (near Cooperstown). We took a detour to visit Letchworth State Park, considered the Grand Canyon of the East. Thanks, Beth Andexler, for the travel tip! Getting out of Canada wasn’t as difficult this time because we went down to the Peace Bridge and crossed into Buffalo. We met a very pleasant border crossing guard. He loved that we were from West Virginia. He had just taken ... read more

It is officially been one month since I left home in North Plains, Oregon. August 5th, 2022 I closed up our home, shut off the water, drained the pipes, cancelled the internet blah blah blah. I drove to Seattle to drop don off with a group of his friends and just like a snap of the fingers, he was gone. I sat in the parking lot for while wondering what in the hell am I doing???? After a small panic attack I headed East, and I haven't stopped yet. So here is my one month check in. Granted the first day - first week - was off to a bit of a rough start. The very first campground, on the first day, I arranged to stay at a State Park in Washington and it was closed ... read more

Yes, folks, it’s that time of year. There is a coolness in the air more often. A few leaves have fallen to the ground. Others are just beginning to change color while still clinging to their branches. The golden rod is flourishing in the fields. In the distance, we hear a call: “Come back, Come Back to Tropical Palms! Your concrete pad is waiting for you!” Ooooo….concrete pad….. nice. Who wouldn’t want to get back to a concrete pad as fast as they could? Cory is revving up the motor…..Start Your Engines! So we are giving you a heads up to start packing. We don’t want any stragglers. We will be pulling out of our Shongo location this Wednesday (7th). Not sure what our arrival date at Tropical Palms will be…just when we land on our ... read more

30th August, 2022 Got up around 8am, showered and packed the last minute stuff into our suitcases. We still had a bit of alcohol left but couldn’t take it with us and neither could the boys so we donated it to the cleaning staff who were very appreciative. The doorman downstairs organised a taxi for us to go to JFK airport. Another harrowing experience. I swear New York drivers have a death wish. We had plenty of time to get some lunch before our 2pm flight so we had a drink and something to eat in the sports bar and watched some of the tennis. At 1.15pm we were called to board and we were given the exit row seats which meant extra leg room. Yay! We reversed out right on time. Then everything went to ... read more

29th August, 2022 Up early to get ready for the tennis. We ubered out to Flushing Meadows which was a whole experience in itself. The driver was an expert in cutting off trucks and buses to push in the non-moving traffic. It was heart attack material. We got to see Andy Murray win his match, watched Simona Halep get beaten by a qualifier and Madison Keys win her match. It was a long hot day again and we mostly managed to stay out of the sun. We got around to a couple of outside courts and to the practice courts but the crowds were over the top and you couldn’t really see much. Got the subway back to the hotel which is what we should have done this morning but we were told it was a ... read more

Niagara Falls!!!! I was so nervous driving through the cities, worrying about tolls, somebody honked at me? WHY? What did I do? That was my lane I was in right? At least it's been raining all day. I threatened myself with driving right through and not seeing the falls. Absolutely not possible. I overcame all of my fears, pushed other peoples perception of me to the side, gripped the steering wheel with both hands and forged on. I have Oregon license plate people...give me a break. I parked, bundled up in a raincoat, baseball cap to protect my glasses from the rain, wore shorts and flip flops. Once I got closer to the falls, I saw many people in the same outfit as me. It's a Niagara thing, be prepared to get soaked! I could see ... read more

26th August, 2022 There was a couple of sore heads this morning including mine. We had a bit of a late start and got the subway down to Brooklyn. We went to a little bakery that Zack knows about and got some lunch and were going to walk back over the Brooklyn Bridge but a storm started and the rain was pelting down so we couldn’t. We got the subway back and stopped at Little Island. Again, we couldn’t go in because of the storm and lightning so we ended up getting an Uber back to the hotel for a nanna nap. I still wasn’t feeling 100%. Dinner was at a rooftop restaurant at Bryant Park where there was a free concert happening. We listened to Spanish, African and Indian music while we ate. Zack’s friend ... read more

27th August, 2022 Christopher, Sandra and I walked down to the United Nations building but forgot that it was the weekend so it was closed. They take the flags down when they are closed but that didn‘t give us the hint. Anyway it was a nice little walk while we were waiting for everyone else to get ready. Brunch was at a beautiful place called Le Gratin in Beekman Street. Amazing food. After that, we walked to Battery Park and got the ferry over to Governor Island. What a great place. It had once been a military training island and also a prison. It had been abandoned for a while but is now being slowly rejuvenated. There is a day spa and a couple of places to stay including a glamping site. The old officers houses ... read more

28th August, 2022 Left the hotel about 10am to go get tickets for the boys to see a show. I introduced them to the guy I had bought the tickets from the other day and they got a good deal. We then walked all the way up 7th Ave to The Plaza for brunch only to find out they are closed. Zack lost a few brownie points there. We ended up at The Boathouse in Central Park. It was extremely busy but worth the walk and wait. Mimosas were flowing as usual. We then went to Bloomingdale’s for the boys to spend money while Sandra and I waited in the Cafe. We can‘t afford Bloomingdale’s. Back to the room so us girls could pack our suitcases for our trip home while the boys went to the ... read more

25th August, 2022 Got up approx. 9am and decided it was washing day. We found a coin laundry about 10 blocks away and as it was shade all the way, we walked there. The machines were well maintained and we got all our stuff washed for around $10.00 US, which wasn‘t too bad. It was a hot morning, so on our way back, we found a bar called Jackson Hole and stopped in for a refreshing margarita. We walked back to the hotel and sorted out suitcases before the boys (friends of Jackie’s) arrived. We went out at about 3pm to buy some drinks for when they arrived and when we got back they were there. It was so good to see them all. Sandra gets on well with all. Dinner was Italian and then we ... read more
