This weekend, I am at one of my favorite places on earth - my alma mater, Hamilton College. It's finally my five year reunion time - I can't believe it's here already. I was both dreading and looking forward to the four hour drive earlier today. Since my pinched nerve has been acting up this week, four hours is a LONG time to spend in the car, especially without cruise control. But it's also a very pretty drive and as I headed up the thruway, past Albany, I started to get that feeling of coming home again. I do love this place, but can you really come home again? To give a little background, my college search began in earnest my senior year of high school. One day, in the mail, I got a brochure for ... read more

...when you are making such detailed lists of what's in each box. Lucky purple shoelaces from high school volleyball days, a neuropsychology book, silver sequined top, cfa books, a wetsuit that needs to get washed, umbrellas in various states of brokenness, shot glasses, pack of yellow dish sponges from the dollar store, summer study in Paris photos, spare strap for my old swatch, creme colored shiny satin ribbons nicely folded to be re-used for gift wrapping next Christmas, fuzzy grey pom-pom ball things saved for- actually I have no clue what I saved these for. Next time I need to come up with a better methodology for packing. I am sitting on the floor surrounded by piles of boxes, scary-sized dust bunnies (Char is going to kill me if I don't get rid of these monstrous ... read more

Hello Lorin and Donna fans! Here is the first entry of our travel blog before we leave Manhattan and head to Boston. I'm graduating on sunday, and I'm really excited to have my fiance, family, and friends all in attendance. I'm thankful for all of them and I love them all. I know it's going to be really busy for the next few days....if the last month+ has been any hint. Donna and I have been busting our buns trying to get all of our stuff ready for the move to Los Angeles. Needless to say, it's been a challenge, but we're almost there! I'm so ready to move on to the next chapter in our lives together...which is, of course, our two month trip to southeast asia! For those who don't know the whole ... read more

Well today is my last day in NY and my tour starts tomorrow. The last couple of days have been really good. We ended up going to a place called the Buddah Bar which was really swanky and in the part of tow that hosts celebs and the rich!!!! it was lovely but you paid through the nose for the drinks, after that we ended up at the Lotus Bar after we had to follow a couple of young ladies the boys were chasing. Simon and I ended up staying a little after some left because it had a cover charge so we figured might as well make it last, however we had to fend off unwanted advances, me from 3 middle age guys and him the a couple of gay gentlemen. Yesterday after a late ... read more

It was quite a full day with not much but walking. I went out for diner with some of the people from my dorm where we ended up in University territory but was a very long way away but I gues it gave us time to get to know each other. I am the only Aussie but I am feeling more at home cause there is an english guy. Last night I went out to the Empire State Building, and the view is amazing!!!!, we went at sunset and although it was packed you got a really good look at the city, it was awsome. That was the night i met up with some of the guys from my tour and they seem very nice. I also took along with me an italian guy called Viktor. ... read more

So, May 29th my parents and my sister flew into New York. We dropped off our stuff at our hotel, and went out to eat at Blue Fin. I had some deeeeeelish lobster sushi :) Right after that, we walked down to Broadway and saw Lion King... it was interesting. I couldn't stop laughing at first, as my family (all above 16 years old) walk into a room full of much younger kids. Furthermore, my dad kept falling asleep. However, the show was really neat -- the set was amazing. Things coming out of the floor, things flying around, people as grass -- it was crazy creative. The best scene, I thought, (set-wise) was the stampede in the gorge. pretty sweet. After this, we pretty much just acted like tourists -- taking pictures on broadway, as ... read more

Yesterday was another hot and humid day (70%, to be exact). Hey, at least I'm not in Florida! Though it may get hotter than Satan's anus out here, I'm having a wonderful time. I admire New Yorkers for their capacity to ignore the overwhelmingly fierce stench of the city and especially the subway system. Someone yaked on the B last night and no one seemed the slightest bit perturbed by it. Except for Rose. She dry heaved a little bit after seeing it. Unlike the rain here, I WAS warned about the smell. Steve Tynan specifically told me, "It's hot in the summertime, and it will appear really dirty, and in many places really smelly." Fair enough. So another place that had come highly recommended to me was Pastis. Steve told me to go for breakfast ... read more

I have a lot of emotions when I think about my visit to New York. It's a city full of gems waiting to be discovered, and a lot of misconceptions. I didn't find New York to be full of rude people or an unmanageable hustle and bustle. Instead, I found a remarkable city that accommodates all the people within it with amazing ease. The transportation is amazingly efficient and Manhattan, very clean. (I do recognize things change once you leave the touristy areas, radiating outward, that things are always much different.) All that being said... I feel we accomplished the unthinkable. Chris and I saw New York (Manhattan) in a weekend. Operating on no more than 4 hours of sleep, due to celebrating Chris's birthday with his family late the night before, I rolled out of ... read more

Hi everyone! We are sitting in some internet cafe in New York at the mo to do a quick update - internet is almost impossible to find on a sunday when the libraries are closed so we have been wandering around for ages to find it! We have done all the main touristy things so far. On first day we went to the top of Empire State Building - Paul was suitably unimpressed by the view but still made us stay up there for ages taking photos! We went to see Pirates of the Caribbean in the evening and was totally weird experience! The audience went totally nuts at the advert for some crap looking brats movie then started clapping at the end of the film which wasnt all that good to be honest! I ... read more
