Have you ever imagined a building shaped like an ironing machine? Well in New York, where everything is possible, you can go visit the Flatiron district. There, you won’t be able to miss out on the unusual building that is the Flatiron. In fact, this word is French for Flat Iron, hence its name.

It all began about 100 years ago, when the triangle shape between the 22nd Street, 5th Avenue and Broadway, appeared. This building of 22 floors with a height average of 87 meters is worth 40 billion dollars and it only took 2 years to build it. It is considered as one of the oldest landmarks of New York.

You’ll notice its very particular structure as it was designed by architect Daniel Burnham from Chicago who was inspired by the Fine Arts Style using the famous & classic Grec Columns.

Ever since it was built, the Flatiron building has attracted numerous New Yorkers’ attention who weren’t convinced by its stability due to its aerodynamic structure and that it would soon collapse.

Today, this landmark is usually used and shot in some ads, or movie scene for instance in Spiderman where the building is used as the Daily Parker newspaper office.

It also is used nowadays for several local ad companies and it is known to be the second New York building representative after the worldwide famous Empire State Building.

So come and FeelNYC with the fantastic Flatiron building!
