It’s official! The Dunns are finally on the road! We left town yesterday and headed towards Cleveland. The first few hours felt like we were driving through Sacremento again with no AC in the bus! Hot diggity hot!!! We then drove through some pretty bad thunderstorms. When we stopped to eat at Subway, Maddie asked us if they had a basement, in case a tornado blew through! Poor girl! We drove to Lake Erie State Park where we spent the night. Julia and I told ghost stories under the sleeping bag while Maddie and Tony played Mario Cart on her DS and ate a bag of Fritos. At the end of the day, Tony logged 380 miles driving and we spent $77.09 on gas. We’re hoping that it’s going to be cheaper this year! Today, we woke up and drove an hour to Niagara Falls. Despite the rain, wet clothes and bulky ponchos we had a good time. We did take the Maid of the Mist boat ride to the falls which has been around since 1846. We were able to cruise to the base of the American Falls and then on to the basin of the Horseshoe Falls. There were
millions of gallons of water crashing like thunder against the rocks on the shore. Julia was starting to feel a little sea sick and Maddie’s shorts were soaking wet. Tony looked so handsome wearing his blue poncho with rain dripping off of his nose! After our boat trip, we went back to the bus to change into some dry clothes and then walked to Hard Rock Café for lunch. Our server told us that last night, the band for No Doubt had eaten there and had passed out some back stage passes for the concert last night. Tony was so bummed that his missed seeing his girlfriend - Gwen Steffani (even though she wasn’t at the restaurant). While at the restaurant, I noticed a mistake written by Ozzy Osbourne. He had written “shoes” - “shoe’s”. Go figure!! Probably not the strongest student back in elementary school! After lunch, we jumped in the bus and headed for the Adirondack Mountains. We will be camping there tonight. The girls are looking forward to eating at the campground and making smores over the fire. Hope it doesn’t rain! Tomorrow, our plan is to either hang out in the Adirondacks or drive to Mount
Washington in New Hampshire. I’ll keep you posted!
Fun Facts: Julia’s favorite part of the trip so far is receiving a prize every day from the closet in the bus. Today’s prize was an Etch-A-Sketch. She was so happy!
Tony and I are already very serious about our license plate challenge! We started as soon as we got on I-275 yesterday! We have already found 37 different states. We think that the Dakotas will be the hardest! We’ll see!
Daisy is enjoying her stay at our friends’,The Burwinkels, house. They have two labs who are apparently wearing her out! GREAT!!
I’ll blog again in the next few days! We’re just so happy to be on the road together again!
