Dear All, After a busy week of touring schools, I have found it wise, while on the road, to do something totally unrelated to college. On this trip, I researched and planned to see a few Broadway plays. I encourage you and your son to do the same when you are on the road so that you not only pace yourself through the college visits, but also have some fun. Over the years, colleagues of mine have combined their college visits with concerts, professional baseball games and even barbecue restaurants. NEW YORK UNIVERSITY This truly is an urban campus. School buildings [View Full Entry]

9/7/8 After 7 long hours of watching films and eating plane food we touched down at JFK airport, finding ta we suddenly had 5 extra hours in the day to kill.A guy drove us to our hotel in literally the biggest car I have ever seen (it would have comfortably seated 11). On the way into Manhattan we got a great view of the whole skyline, which (unsurprisingly) compleely doinates he srrounding lndscape. My first impressionsof New York are that it is both exactly the same and completly different as you would've imagined it. The way to experience the city is [View Full Entry]

We left the miserable UK summer and headed to the Big Apple for some sunshine and wings!! We did a little bit of sightseeing however most of the time we were either hitting the shops or finding places for beer, coffee, and food (priorities first!) Apart from eating ourselves into a stupor we did manage to head to an ice hockey game in Madison square gardens to see the New York Rangers play the New Jersey Devils. We also took a day trip through the Brooklyn suburbs to Coney Island, which was a big dissapointment. We were amazed that such a [View Full Entry]

Statue of Liberty One of the main tourist attractions in New York is The Statue of Liberty, visited by hundreds of tourists on a daily basis. We had been previously advised to get there as early in the day as possible otherwise we should be prepared to stand in long queues. Eager to beat the crowds, we set off from the hostel around 8am. The Statue of Liberty stands tall on Liberty Island as a welcome to all visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans. The statue was given to the Americans as a gesture of friendship from France in 1886 to strengthen [View Full Entry]

Panoramic View: Manhattan Skyline Through Empire State Building Safety Bars Skyscraper Views On Thursday, we got up early. We wanted to beat the queues as today was the day we were going to climb (or at least take the lift) the Empire State Building. Famous for King Kong and being the tallest something or other at one point, it's a New York tourist must-do and as such is awash with crappy souvenirs. We took the subway and wandered in, surprised by the lack of queues, as we weren't extremely early. After going through stringent security, we headed up the lift to [View Full Entry]

2008 Summer Calendar Free NYC Events Check weekly for frequent updates. The Seaside Summer Concert and The Martin Luther King schedule is out. Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and more exciting performances; FREE! This calendar is in no way complete. There are literally hundreds of free lectures, films, readings, museums, street fairs and a number of other events throughout the summer that NYC has to offer its residents and visitors. I have tried to include outdoor movies, concerts and other free activities that are my favorites that I think others will enjoy, but I am biased. I li [View Full Entry]

I certainly have been slacking on keeping up my travel journal, which stinks because then I have so much to write about and I probably bore you with the long ones... OH WELL! lol I was in NY in early June and after a couple weeks I went home to attend the Rotary Convention in LA. It was great to see old friends and catch up on a greater level with the world of Rotary that i love so much. During the last week of June, Alissa and I drove to Vegas to celebrate her birthday. We had an exhausting 5 [View Full Entry]

Outside at night!
Yippie!!!! How we both love NYC! I know... it's chessy... but it's true. Adam and I went together this year for a part work, part pleasure two night stint. We took the train from Harrisburg to the city, which by the way is the way to go. We checked out the theatre that we will be performing in January. We have named the trip our "Searching for Famous People." We went to where they film the morning show with Meredith and I got my picture taking with MARTHA STEWART! How Freakin' Cool is that! Next time I get crafty I will [View Full Entry]
