Julia and Libby
Let me introduce myself....My name is Libby. I come from a small Midwest town where I still travel back to at least once a year to head to the local bar and see more than just familiar faces, but friends that will last me my lifetime (I feel I am very lucky). Although I love the simplicity of a small town, I decided to bounce out of that shell at 18 and move to Seattle, Washington to become a Husky- something that I will always be proud to be. Then after four years of PAC NW I once again felt the [View Full Entry]

Time's Square
Time's Square
Oooh flashy.
While it's technically true that I've been to New York before, it was under conditions that were less than ideal. I had just returned from England where my girlfriend had broken up with me. I missed my connecting flight in Newark, and figured I should go to see the Big Apple. But after taking the train into Penn Station, I managed only a couple of blocks before falling into a lonely drink across the street from Madison Square Garden. It was an uneventful night, and for all intents and purposes I had seen nothing of New York. So all technicalities aside, [View Full Entry]

New York, New York. We landed in the Big Apple, and well it is big. We thought Las Vegas was crazy. This place is something else. The whole of New York needs to take one big deep breath and count slowly to ten. Everything is a hundred miles an hour. It just doesn’t stop. The roads are chock a block. Have no idea how anyone one drives around here, don’t think I would even attempt it. It seems you drive flat out when you can, honk the horn and then wait and wait. Then honk the horn again. Manhattan, like the [View Full Entry]

NYC was a huge change from the quiet beach location in Cape Canaveral, Florida. I book accommodation at the Tudor Hotel (at the United Nations) and had a free upgrade to business class on the flight so I thought I was in for a great time. Boy . . . I caught the subway into NYC from the airport, what a nightmare. There are no maps in the carriages to show you what stations are where so if you don't remember what station you need (which I didn't) then you have no idea! Then when I went to change trains, the [View Full Entry]

Having been a very avid tennis player and fan most of my adult life, I jumped at the chance to attend the U.S. Open in Flushing Meadow, New York during the 80's. I was going to Chicago and Atlanta on business anyway, so it fit right in. I got the tickets from the Northern California Tennis Association, for which I was a committee volunteer. During a meeting, the Director asked if anyone wanted the tickets, and I said YES. Do you remember who won the Men's title in 1982? Chicago and Atlanta were just a couple of stops on the way [View Full Entry]

NEW YORK CITY Tues 26th August - Tues 2nd Sept Arrived with Andy&Nas just beore 8pm, with Kaden hopping around in excitement and the pair of them zoomng all over the courtyard whilst we loaded up our bags and wheeled them up to their apartment. Managed to get Joe to bed by 8.30pm and the two feisty ones by 10, leaving Jack&Kaden to go…..not really - the adults later retiring before we turned into pumpkins or something American like zucchini. Naturally after such a late night and all day travelling, we expected our kids to sleep in, they however had other [View Full Entry]

For thanksgiving weekend we took a roadtrip south to New York State, then down through Pennsylvannia to Algegheny Forest in the Jeep. Here we met up with friends and went wildwest camping. We actually stayed in a cowboy wagon and had campfires and beers. The weather was amazing for the weekend and over 25 and sunny in October, the trees and colours were fantastic as the fall colours are starting to come out. We visited a real local restaurant in the small town of Sigel, which was exactly as you can imagine from TV. The only veggie food was a side [View Full Entry]

Toby's friend Craig visited this weekend so we showed him around the city. On Friday Toby took him to The Boathouse in Central Park for a beer, then down to Brooklyn Bridge. They walked across the bridge and explored DUMBO for a while before heading back to Manhattan. They had some drinks at Union Square before heading home. On Saturday we started the day with lunch at Tom's Restaurant, aka "The Seinfeld Cafe". We noticed a street fair nearby so we walked through it and down to Riverside Drive. We then caught the subway to 50th Street and walked across to [View Full Entry]

Today we took the subway to Chinatown. I'd never been in the subway before and it was a neat experience. Everything was clean, it was nice. Mark told me there's no way he would have taken his family in the subway the way it used to be. We walked around Chinatown, ate at a restaurant that we just wandered into off the street and the food was fantastic! We went to a park nearby and listened to this group of old men sing traditional songs and play instruments, then we went to a Chinese grocery store. We actually had loads of [View Full Entry]
