Amazing, they let us back into the US from Canada with a minimum of fuss - you never can tell, based on all the stories you hear! The most exciting part of the entry was navigating a rental car through the streets of old Quebec (which not even the GPS in the car could assist with), and dealing with the driving style of Bostonites. They clearly don’t understand the concept of turning left from the left lane, right from the right, and not reversing down busy streets. All part of the adventure right?? Boston was a great city - once [View Full Entry]

Back from Africa!
Back from Africa!
from "I'm in New York City!" by Denise Ward
Landed safely and on time this morning via British Airways after two 7-hour flights - first from Ghana to London, then 2-hour layover and plane change, then second 7-hour leg to JFK and NYC. Last fall and now, superb service on BA, in the airports, including Accra, where I had to repackage my luggage 3 times to avoid extra fees and meet regulations - all on the patient advice of counter rep, and a floor attendant giving me a much appreciated helping hand. Same nice help on the plane, dealing with my too large plastic bag with fragile items. Great food, [View Full Entry]

Wow! I'm on a long journey. I came to America on an aeroplane and I've been looking around New York. It's quite hot here but not too hot. I watched the New York City Half Marathon as runners came out of Central Park. Then I made friends with a policeman and I sat in his NYPD car. I went to the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) and saw lots of famous artists' work. You would love the work of Jackson Pollock. I went on a boat to see the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island. Then there was a lovely view [View Full Entry]

New York

After a short delay, our plane landed at LaGuardia Airport, and soon after that we were aboard a shuttle bus and on our way to our hotel in Gramercy, a very pleasant neighbourhood in East Village, Midtown Manhattan. Now, anybody who hasn’t had their head down a rabbit hole (or up their own) for their entire lives is aware (even if they’ve never been there) that NYC is hectic!! But the word hectic takes on a whole new meaning. We were perversely excited about not only being in New York, but about the fact that we could be involved in an [View Full Entry]

5 Days in New York! Heather says After having the company of Foxy Moron (the car) and Chesty LaRue (the navigation) it was time to say a sad farewell in Connecticut. Back to good old public transport .... bugger! We arrived on Thursday 17th July after another long day driving by Brendan and were picked up at the car hire by Janene (Newton's wife). We collected Newton from the train station and headed back to their house which is only about 1 minute drive away (laxy newton!! ha-ha) Their house is this goegeous collonial style house built in the 1920's. New York City is a somewhat one-way relationship. If you've had a friendship with an indifferent person who never calls you and you're the one who puts in the effort but never get it returned. You'll understand. This city is massive. 1.6 million people live on 23 square mile Manhattan island, most of them are friendly, some are not. Arriving in the city is like walking into a giant movie set but it's all very real starting with the traffic jam we got caught in on Broadway. We flew into sunny Newark airport at 6 in the morning. The flight across [View Full Entry]

After nearly a month of waiting, I finally got to NYC to visit my girls. My earliest memory of NYC was visiting as a young girl with my parents. I saw some church, got to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty, took photos at the top of the Twin Towers and distinctly remember my mom's fury when realizing that Dad had chosen the wrong subway and taken us to the Bronx. That was the 80s. It wasn't until after I graduated in 2004 that I revisited the big bad apple. For one reason or another, all of my friends have [View Full Entry]

After deciding to leave Sir Paul who would have thought that after getting to Montreal airport that my flight to New York would be canceled. Was this a sign that I should have stayed in Quebec City? Fortunately the airline was "kind" enough to book me on an early flight the next day. Given my limited time frame I explained that that may not be the best option and is it possible to find another flight. Luckily Air Canada had a seat with my name on it so NYC here I come. Before this quick jaunt to the large pomaceous city [View Full Entry]
