This is the start of my first ever Travel Blog. Trying this out for my first time. Wanna document all the wonderful memories i've had in US for the past 2 mths! New York is an experience - so alive and full of energy!! There is so much to do here that we can't possibly see everything.! We have been to the statue of liberty, empire state building, time square, broadway (and saw phantom of the opera - spectacular), world trade centre site, walked over the brooklyn bridge, and seen all of the little areas like soho and greenwich. You could spend weeks here and still have heaps to do each day. During the week we crossed the border to Canada and went to niagra falls. This was breathtaking. Our final stop in the US before the real travelling begins!! Sara successfully negotiated the subway to meet her mum at JFK - a 4 hour round trip in total!! We highly recommend meeting your mum at some point on a round the world trip as the standard of accommodation dramatically improves!! The Hyatt was right beside Grand Central Station (a relief with our rucksacks!!) the room overlooked the Chrysler Building - perfect! Entry by Gemma. We have a few hours left in New York. Has been a fun-packed few days. Arrived thursday evening on the GreyHound bus. The journey was very comfortable, they even showed a film on the bus- DaddyDayCare, Dave read his book, but i enjoyed the film! Stayed at the Big Apple Hostel, location was brilliant-right off of Time Square, i couldnt believe it. I loved being in the middle of all the action. Flew into New Jersey on sunday morning, picked up our rental car and headed to New York to see the sights and check out our driving skills. We decided we had a few angels looking after us that day as we came out alive and without a scratch to the car ( A miracle). We have never been tooted and yelled at so much in our lives. I'm here in New York to visit my friend Ariela who I havn't seen in three years since we met in Peru. There will be no further mention of the Statue of Liberty, Staten Island, Times Square and Fifth Avenue as its already been seen and done. I ventured into Brooklyn. This area is a burough of New York and does have a reputation of being a immigrant and latino neighbourhood with some areas being extremely poor. So this was my first trip to the NYC. I was travelling with my brother Tim Eakins. We met his best friend Jeff and my very good friend from Latvia: Greg. It was going to be a very intense trip. Tim and I were wanting to see as much of New York as possible with spending the least amount of money as possible. Today, Terry and I decided to do a day trip to New York. We were actually dreading the trip, because we were really starting to feel the jet lag and would have prefered to have had a day of veging out. Unfortunately, this was the only day that we could do New York, so it had to be done. The day started early by catching a 6am train to New York. Been trying to get a lot of motorcycle riding in before I sell my bikes and head around the world. Changed my plans from starting in South America to heading straight to Japan and heading West from there.
