Pretty laidback day Shopping, eating & shopping Day of consuming! Maria had as appointment in town today around 3:30PM so there three of us made plans for lunch at the Blue Water Grill in Union Square. Since Maria and I wanted to check out a few stores and do a little shopping before lunch we left for the LIRR earlier than Eric. Well, actually we left twice before Eric. Maria and I made it to the LIRR station which is just a two block walk in less than 5 minutes and waited up on the platform. Hmm, the train is a [View Full Entry]

Lots of slow walking South Street Seaport, Ground Zero Makes for tired feet! Maria and I headed into Manhattan and walked over to the South Street Seaport area where we checked out a few shops. And then we headed to the food fair to find something to eat for lunch. After lunch it was more browsing and checking out some of the street performers. It was really interesting watching those four break dancers. Man they are super fit. Wish I could add video to this blog because I took a short video clip that was just amazing. This one guy jumped [View Full Entry]

Its not like Starbucks needs help promoting their image, but nevertheless the person in this photo has placed a green tea frappuccino in the dog's mouth for a photo on her cellphone.
NYC is a place that may test the boundaries for some people on what is normal. Every day I saw some crazy sights and there was a lot to inspire someone with new ideas and passion. Here are few last photos before I left for Boston. [View Full Entry]

Time to say goodbye Time in Europe is over Time to catch a plane. Richard had to go into work early on Friday so I set my alarm to make sure I was up in time to say my thank you’s and goodbye…would have been a bit rude to sleep in. lol The plan was to go back to sleep since my train to the airport could wait until 9:30/10. But then I decided against that idea for fear of sleeping through a second alarm…can’t take chances! So what better to do than surf the net! The past while there always [View Full Entry]

Statue of Liberty
Statue of Liberty
The photo isn't grainy thats the smog!
So after a greuling 12 hour overnight, freezing cold bus ride we made it to New York City!!! The city was amazing, not everything we expected it to be but it was still a good 2 weeks we spent there. We did all the touristy things such as Staten Island ferry so we could see the statue of liberty. I think we did this on the worst possible day as it was so smoggy!!! we caught the ferry on a sunday so you wouldn't expect there to be so much smog but unfortunately there was :( We also had a look [View Full Entry]

New York Manhattan is a city that at first take I did not like. But after I gave it another week I found that there were many things to like and so many different sides to the city that I had to reconsider what made a good metropolis. To its credit it really does buzz off its own energy. This is a city for people with energy and ideas. Every day I have seen someone creating a new crazy new idea or product. This place is ruthless to those that try, but many persist and some have made their way. For [View Full Entry]

L to R=Kelly, Greg, Adam
This was my second trip to NYC. I got to meet Greg again, Adam from Poland, and Kelly from Minnesota. I also met up with my brother's friend Jeff once again. This time around, I was serious about having some fun. We did it just like in Latvia. We stayed at the Carlton Arms Hotel. They use hotel a little too freely. This was and is a hostel. Back in the day, it used to be a whore/gambling house. It was a very creative place nowadays. Every room is painted with a different mural/motif. It was very interesting. NYC:4

On arriving in NYC I decided to rough it and stay at one of the Manhattan hostels. Where ever I go I am trying to find accommodation that is relatively close to the action. With no where to relax in the dorm, I jumped on the train and headed to Time Square. My first few moments in the square were rather disappointing. This part of the city is nothing like I expected and its not a great place to visit, except if you escape off the side streets into a thearte or bar. In all the cities I have travelled I [View Full Entry]

People passing by

Well, I figure that since I've started this whole travel journal that I should probably have a bit to say about my home away from home for 7 months. It is an amazing city. Not always enjoyable, but most of the time I loved being here. I have done everything I hoped to do and more with my time here. I've got plenty of photos and lots of other stories that I couldn't possibly fit in to the blog because my literacy skills are going to fail me as I'm sure Team gap would second. I will try and give you [View Full Entry]
