What a day! We started with breakfast at the hotel (the usual stuff) followed by a tour of Yankee Stadium. It was a great tour! We got to go onto the warning track of the field and even got to sit in the Yankee dugout! After the dugout, we went up to the press box for some great pictures.
After the Yankee Stadium tour, we took the subway to Chinatown and Little Italy. The subway ride was a really neat experience. Some of the kids got to see an impromptu performance by a guy playing the bongos. Some of the kids gave him some money and a couple of them got a CD.
We split into two groups for lunch. One group went into Chinatown and the other into Little Italy. The Chinese restaurant was a neat experience. The language barrier was a little difficult to overcome, but we had a great server that really took care of us. Some of the ordering was a bit confusing. One of the tables ended up with a plate of chicken feet!
Up next on the fun agenda was a guided tour of NYC. We started with some of the 5th Avenue shops and
then Central Park. Some of the kids had a good time hula hooping with an entertainer in the Park. After the park and on the way to Ground Zero, our bus broke down! It was overheating a bit which gave way to some unexpected shopping time on 5th Avenue. The kids were thrilled to have that time to spend more money!
After shopping we went to Spanky’s BBQ in Times Square. The food was great and we only had one kid spill BBQ sauce on his shirt :)
We finished dinner a little early, so the kids got some free time in Times Square which they really enjoyed. There were some fantastic picture opportunities! We were all in awe of the magnitude of everything there (lights, people, buildings, activity, etc), but what an amazing experience for the kids!
The final event on our agenda was The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. The show lived up to all of our expectations! It was another wonderful experience for the kids, most of which had not been to a production of that magnitude. After the show we took a group picture in the middle of Times Square. The picture was taken by
a professional photographer which was arranged by our tour director, Nate. The picture will be available to buy in a couple of weeks. We will email the link when we get it.
As always, we appreciate your support and comments! It is a lot of fun to see what everyone has to say at the end of the day. Make sure to check us tomorrow as we will be visiting Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, and taking a guided tour of Philadelphia, so we will have lots to report. This is B-Cubed, signing off!
