New York, New York

After staying the night in Madrid, at Debbie's friends place, we caught a taxi at 445am to the airport. Everyone must have still been half asleep because we went through customs with each others passports and didnt even realise till we were through the other side!! The scary thing was that the customs officers didnt even look twice...yikes we were lucky.. we could have gotten into so much trouble!

We arrived in New York in the evening of the 11th, after a long day of flights & waiting in airports. We got picked up by Jack the guy we were staying with. That was great as we would never have found his place otherwise! He lived in Queens, in the same area where 50 cent got shot...that made us feel real safe! Dont worry though mum and dad it was a safe area.

Our visit in NY flew by. The first day we spent the whole day shopping and saw some sights along the way. We now know the full meaning of 'shop till you drop'. We were out and about for 13 hours....so tired on our way home that we kinda got a bit lost and walked right around a cres and ended up back where we started. It was so funny we had to stop and have a break..would have been funnier if we didnt have our hands full of shopping and laundry!

We found some great bargins and had fun finding our way to the malls and shopping districts. We were warned about tourists getting ripped off so we were cautious but not cautious enough as the first place we found to get perfume from ripped us off big time! We learnt our lesson and were able to laugh about it a few days later.

We spent a lot of our time bending over in laughter at the silly things we did. We blamed it on being super tired!

* The passport switch really was the start of stupid things 101
* Homeless man on the subway stank out the whole carriage, Debbie thought it was the man in front of us so we moved, but we ended up moving to a space right across from the homeless man, who was the true source of the smell....when we realised we didnt move again for a while because we were so embarressed!
*Water bottle episode - Water bottle leaked in Deb's bag so we had to go outside to empty it out. Bypasses laughed at debbie sitting on the pavement with a fountain of water coming out of her bag
* Gettin ripped off at the first perfume store we went to in Canal St.
* We went shopping at Macys and Bex found the cutest hoddie. While she was waiting to try it on an african-american lady said it was "SO HOT". Next day when she wore it she got strange looks and wondered why, only to find out when we met Debs friends in NC, that the label 'Apple Bottoms' was a black designer label. Much to their amusement bex also aquired a pair of shoes that were also a black designer label. She will never live this one done as their is also a rap song about this label.

There were many other funny/tragic episodes during our few days in NY but we will save these for a later date.
