We had the plan of wearing out the girls so that they would sleep on the plane and then sleep when we got to Wolf & Sarahs in Seattle.
We walked from the Hotel, on 42nd & 10th, across to fifth avenue then down fifth avenue to Central park. Stopping at the rockerfeller centre and Trump towers. The place is increadibly garish, but the waterfall inside the building is worth seeing.
We sat in Central park and Chloe spoke to a japanese guy who was filming some large monarch butterflies. He had been there every day filming them for the last thirty odd years. They are very big and colourful. There were big turtles sunning themselves on the rocks and loads of ducks.
We walked across the bottom end of the park and then back down 8th avenue to 42nd street. Ellie moaned like mad because she was tired and it was extremely muggy.but it's incredible how quiet it is once you get in the trees, considering you are in the middle of one of the buisiest cities in the world, it's a real oasis of calm.
Before getting back to the hotel we stopped in a great place that had 10 different beers on tap and loads of bottled ones. We had this locally brewed wheat beer that had been infused with cherry. A couple were nice but I couldn't drink too many. The girls had salad to eat which they said was the best salad they have ever had.
Then we went and got our stuff from the hotel and hailed a cab The cab ride was entertaining, it was exactley as it should have been as you have seen it in films. The driver was swearing a lot and driving in to gaps that didn't exist with his hand almost permantly on the horn. It was Labour day and the place was at a complete standstill. According to the taxi driver all of the schools went back the next day and everyone was coming back off of holiday. He also said that there are 8.5 million residents and on average 2.5 million more tourists and visitors!!!
I wouldn't recomend Delta for flying, as to get a meal on the flight you had to be first or business class. All of the movies, games etc had to be paid for at between $2-$5. The flight was only an hour shorter than London to NYC.
We arrived in Seattle at 11pm ish. We then waited for the luggage and Chloe asked where we were supposed to be meeting Wolf. I thought, good I have his mobile number I'll ring him. Wrong I had put too many 0's in the number. Panic for thirty seconds then went for a wander as I walked back in to the terminal he was walking up the ramp.
We told the girls to be quiet when we arrived at the house, because it was 12.30am, and as we walked in there was the sound of rushing feet and Harley appeared more excited than if santa had just turned up.
Hello Chloe here.
Just to add we went to the hole that was the World Trade Centre, on Sunday. It is still a building site and you can walk round it, but there is nothing to see, except lots of rubble and cranes. We found it quite hard to get up to it as the whole area is a work site, a lot of the buildings around it are covered in scaffolding and mesh, I presume for cleaning and making save as the impact of the planes must have made them unstable (not to mention the collapse of the towers). We found our way to the memorial plaques which are on the side of one block, round the corner from the "Visitors Centre" I cant decide if having a visitors centre is right or not. I found it quite disturbing that it is such a tourist attraction. We didn't go in, as I found the hole area quite upsetting and have to admit to having a lump in my throat just being there, so we left and headed to the Empire State Building.
