when a guy w/ a thick jersey accent told me 'bobby will by by later to take care of you guys,' the first thing i thought of was that some guy named bobby was going to come by to shoot us so we couldn't 'talk.'
after getting in from a party at 445am on saturday, i was driving by 515 back to nyc for the second weekend in a row. a friend of mine works in a bar in staten island that has a march madness bball pool, and since the only other pool on the island was shut down last year for illegal gambling, this pool had reached 35,000 entries @ $10/ea.. for those of you who are not good at math, that means $350000 for whoever can guess the winners for a basketball tournament. we were recruited to type in entries so a database could sort teh winners rather than having the bar owners looking through 35000 pieces of paper- instead WE looked through 35k peices of paper.
the work was about as boring as it sounds. each team has a number assigned to it, and each entriy was composed of 4 winners for each conference, an overall winner, and a final game points total. this means that for the 12k entries that we were assigned to type in, there were 6 numbers for each, totalling 72000 numbers. because i'd done an internship that included this mindbogglingly boring style number crunching, i could do the accountant style no looking number entry and entered about 8500 of the 12k we did.
so working from noon saturday to 1130 sat night (note no sleep since thursday night) and then again from 545am sun to 230 sunday afternoon, Bobby dropped $600 in both our hands. i should have been a gangsta
if nothing else that covers spring break
