Hello All, Me and Vic have just finished our first week in the big apple! it was great fun, didnt quite realise that the hostel we were staying in was within the gay area of new york, got woken up in the middle of the night with a man knocking on our window asking "homosexuals, are there any homosexuals in there?" needless to say I have made a new friend and have a new experience under my belt (dont panic mum thats a joke!). Saw all the usual sights and did all the usual tourist stuff, went and saw Coney Island (fans of the warriors will know what i'm on about) Tried to go watch the nicks and the rangers but couldn't get tickets, got into a free film screening, and encountered some typical new york ... read more

Today Jenny and I are leaving for Costa Rica! Both of us look forward to this trip very much! I spent the last couple of days in New York, a city I like more and more. You can check out some of my pics here. I've been around in Manhattan - mostly Chelsea, Village and Soho. Also visited the Guggenheim museum but I was a bit disappointed, however the Musem of Modern Art deserves another visit! Enjoy and until next time, Helena... read more

Overvejer at begive mig ... read more

... read more

Roaches and mice!...... Yes, that’s right - we found a mouse in our stove today (not the oven, but the stove) - and the only reason we were looking in our stove was to set a roach bomb to kill the roaches that are living in our kitchen (especially in our stove). At least we are getting the true New York experience, right? Other than that things are good here. It’s been freezing cold - I mean so cold your face hurts when the wind blows. Last night we saw Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre. The theatre was really pretty and the sets were amazing. We also went to Pure Food and Wine - which is the premier raw restaurant in New York. You wouldn’t believe how good raw food can be - ... read more

i said i was going to be better about these updates and here i am not even back on my final continent and i'm writing. i'm in new york and i rode in an unmarked taxi to john and susie's apt and my thoughts were: 1st: fear cause it was an unmarked cab and what was i doing being so naive 2nd: that the guy was speaking zarma on his cell phone he wasn't and i didn't ask i'm not quite into my always at the front of myself travel mode, ready to break barriers and ask what language someone's speaking i'm attributing it to the cold i've been experiencing it freezes my brain, restricts my wandering instincts, i was dreading this long day of travel, from bozeman-salt lake-boston-new york but it wasn't bad, of course ... read more

Today is our third day here and we’ve been really busy so far. Our apt. is really cute- really tiny-but cute. We are subletting from a gay guy who is moving in with his partner but hanging on to his place. It’s a studio with a Murphy bead (it folds out of the wall). The place is set up with dimming lights, a 300 -disc cd player filled with discs and organized by genre, and Buddha statues everywhere. We are on the upper west side so we are about a 10 to 20 min subway ride to the heart of the city, depending on the destination. So far we have done a lot of window shopping in different parts of the city - my favorite being soho and nolita (above little Italy). There are lots ... read more
