As the title suggests, this will be a more detailed log then either previous updates, and thats because I'm on my own again, and have a 4 hour pass (By accident :s) to use on this machine in one go, but I won't be staying that long! After my last update, we went straight to see war Of The Worlds. In my opinion, it could be the greatest movie this year! It was that amazing. I don't know if its out there yet, or even soon, but I recommend it highly to everybody to see it straight away. If the premise [View Full Entry]

Well, I'm really sorry for my sketchy update times. I've been hanging around with this guy from Washington all day, his name's Willy, and time has just flown by. I'm actually just about to see war Of The Worlds and so I'm glad Steve didn't say anything about the storyline! Hehe. Hope everybody's having a great time, here's what I've been up to. Woke up this morning, got dressed kinda quickly because I didn't want to waste any time, and met up with my room-mate on the subway station. We headed to Times Square, and basically first of all we decided [View Full Entry]

I am overloaded with information about New York! My first impressions were as always, completely understated. I mean my impressions are always understated, not like I go to New York all the time and I'm always dissappointed... never mind! Haha. The first thing I noticed was the heat. If I'd paid more attention to anyone or anything about New York weather, I would have known it is so much hotter than UK, but not only that, its got to be one of the hottest places on Earth! Not really, but its very very hot and humid. I'm sweating like crazy! First [View Full Entry]

*Disclaimer* THis entry is not the way I wanted it to go -- I have other pics to add and some other stuff happened (including my mother and I getting left behind on the track as my dad made it into the train-- I am still, literally, peeing in my pants from laughing when I think about it). However, I MUST leave VERY soon (like, in 30 minutes) for the airport, and I wanted to get this out.***** Arrived in NYC on Saturday afternoon and my luggage and I headed straight to cousin Becca's apartment on the Very Upper West Side. We arrived in NY NY at 1:30pm Saturday 26th June via JFK airport and had an abrupt introduction to traffic at it's worst. JFK is only 30k from Manhattan but the trip to our hotel took 3 hours!!! It was amazing and I think the only road rule is 'don't stop'! The Quality Hotel on Broadway is a misnomer - aka is there is NO quality. (Robyn don't be offended, just don't recommend it to anyone else). Two nights later we checked into the HI hostel 10 blocks North on Amsterdam Avenue. It was very clean and comfortable, just lacked a [View Full Entry]

The time has come... To dance down 5th avenue. Rob and I had planned on going to watch the parade, and as we stood on the footpath watching the parade go past two of Rob's mates spotted us and before we knew we were in it, dancing with some the sexiest men I have ever seen, in some of the best dresses. There is something very liberating and entirely surreal about dancing through the streets of New York to the beat of the Brasilian drums surrounded by the fanfare of mardi gra. It was brilliant. ... the photos tell the story. [View Full Entry]

I've now arrived at the New York hostel, after an epic 17 hour journey, to find my road trip compadres are all missing presumed lost! Unless they turn up soon I'm going to have to brave the dodgy looking pizza restaurant over the road alone. New York is exactly how you'd expect. Yellow cabs, apartment buildings with fire escapes bolted on the side, fat people... I expected this but I am still surprised at just how familiar it all feels - as if I've lived here half my life. Tomorrow the sight-seeing begins in earnest. [View Full Entry]

I love New York. Each day I wake up with a long list of things to do but each day, despite my best efforts to stay focused, I keep on getting distracted and wander down side streets. I end up seeing eveything and nothing.... Friday I tried to get tickets to see Shakespeare in the Park, after waiting for 2 hours in the heat of the day they gave the last ticket to the person standing 3 people ahead of me in the queue. Shrugging it off, went to meet up with Rob at the Grand Central Station. For those of [View Full Entry]

so on my second day in the USA after spending the night in the marriott hotel i took an early morning train right into New York city's grand central station, a truly awesome place... i had no idea of where anything was so the first thing i did was buy a map...i had my breakfast in one of the thousand starbucks and set off on a day of snapshots and being a tourist... i visited the empire state building, ground zero (twin towers), central park, times square and some other famous places. highlight of the day was getting a photo of [View Full Entry]

The Cloisters, situated in beautiful Fort Tyrone Park in Upper Manhattan. The Cloisters is an extension of the Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art of medieval Europe. The Cloisters, opened in 1938, incorporates architectural monuments carefully transported from Europe and reconstructed in a building specifically designed to evoke rather than imitate the monasteries, churches and halls of medieval times. Two hours is just enough time to engage your creative and imaginative faculties, and not enough time to soak in all the history. This is one of those places you find yourself r [View Full Entry]
