It's definitely THAT time of year. The bells are ringing (the random Santas on street corners who stand there with buckets are the main proponents of these), the children are singing (actually, crying their eyes out in shops is probably more accurate) and everyone else is spending far more than they ought to, anywhere they can! Everyone with a screen name on MSN has changed it to something "comically festive" (guilty), and the everyone starts paying each other a lot more attention at work, just in case you end up as their secret santa. HAPPY HOLIDAYS, THE AMERICAN WAY! Actually it [View Full Entry]

We have just left NYC after a week of non stop madness. I have been trying so hard to be good and keep this blog up to date but it is just not working so I am going to try and do a week in one go and then stay up to date for the rest of our trip (keep your fingers crossed!). Our NYC experience started off with a 2 hours wait on the tarmack at JFK airport due to a snow storm and back log as they tried to get the ice and snow off departing planes etc... a [View Full Entry]

Well after a few false starts hopefully this will be the beginning of my first proper journal entry. I arrived in NY without much hassle except for the immigration guy being very suspicious of why i wanted to travel back to the US and would i be trying to work while in Burlington. We landed in JFK around 12:30 on Monday and caught the bus into the city although we didnt realise how big JFK was and that the bus was going to stop at every terminal on the way out lol anyway we got to our hostel and left our [View Full Entry]

Hello all... It's the middle of the night and almost everyone I know in NY is sleeping. That dam WORK thing always getting in the way of staying up late. I was thinking about sleeping...but who has the time, 8 hours left so I figured what better time than now to write my first Blog entry. Hope all of you read this sitting at your desks, having a cup of coffee, reminding yourselves of why it is you go to sleep early everyday just to make sure your not late for that great view of the inside of your cubicle/office/desk. Maybe [View Full Entry]

There are a number of statements that I was pretty certain I'd never hear in the corporate world. These have ranged from the fairly banal ("hell, we're not that busy. Let's take the rest of the month off...") to the delightfully random ("he did? With a BADGER??"). I'd like to think though, that I'm always prepared for the unexpected and can cater to even the most unforeseen of comments. "What's the going rate for midgets these days?" had me utterly stumped. Picture it. Your boss walks in on a Monday morning, you meet with him to discuss the upcoming fundraiser and [View Full Entry]

Well, it's 7.20am in New York and I've been up since 5am. Emma's somehow managing to sleep but I think my body has already switched back onto GMT. Today is the last day of our world tour and the end of 10 months on the road. We've completed thousands of miles journeying and had more experiences than it's humanly possible to take in. We've visited 8 countries (China, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and the United States) whilst travelling across (in some cases literally) 3 continents. We've seen the most amazing natural wonders and met some incredible wildlif [View Full Entry]

On Wednesday, we took the train to Greenwich Village, found the Friends building (the exterior shot used at the start of the show) and walked to Washington Square and through NYU. Afterwards, in the strangely warm weather (21 degrees celsius), we did a little shopping on Broadway before taking in a movie (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr.) and heading back to the hostel (in some amazingly heavy rain). We grabbed a giant New York pizza on the way home. The next morning, winter arrived in the form of the cold, crisp temperatures that we we [View Full Entry]

I've got to admit, I wasn't a huge fan of Alanis back in her ranty man-hating days. It was all just a little pessimistic for me. My heart was pretty much intact at the age of 14, I'd never really had any parental issues and I was pretty clear on the meaning of the word "ironic", and it had nothing to do with an old dude winning the lottery before promptly dying (didn't they make a film about that, something about Ted or Ned?). But then there was a little road trip with Ali, when it suddenly all became clear. By [View Full Entry]
