Hello guys. Well we have arrived safe and sound in NYC and thus far have spent one night here. Want to send out a massive thanks to Sarah, Kelly and Doreen for putting us up in thier home for several nights. Was a rad pad. I've never really been in a basement b4 in a house, which was cool because after a massive night if you woke up on the couch at miday it was still dark all around you. They also had a spa. :) It was a new experience to jump in the spa with a few beers and [View Full Entry]

So, after getting the departure terminal wrong at Heathrow, I actually managed to get myself to destination 1-New York! I was met at JFK by a friend of mine who has been a legend from the minute I got off the plane until now. The first thing he did was buy me a weekly metro card so that I could get myself around the city for free which has been invaluable to me. When we stepped out of the subway to find my hostel, I was breathtaken. I could see the Empire State building lit up in front of me, Yellow [View Full Entry]

'The Big Apple','Capital of the World','A City that never sleeps','The Empire State' and 'Broadway Manhattan' are the depictions made in several movies, soaps and braggadoccio's of New Yorkers. If you believe that man is the greatest creator, come to New York. When me and my wife stepped out of the Penn station on the 33rd street,we could only find ourselves in an amazing world of sky scrapers, millions of people of different countries walking briskly and the bustling sounds of cars (and cops alike) wading through the streets of Manhattan. You are suddenly enclosed in a world that seems utopian and [View Full Entry]

Not surprisingly we slept in longer than we had planned, but we still headed out fairly early. We rang Travvy to try and organise lunch with him and Bec before we left. It depended on Bec being able to get away from work so we told Travvy we'd call him closer to lunch. On foot again we headed towards Central Park after we had put our baggage in the hostel's storage room. It had snowed a little bit overnight, but it was actually warmer than the previous 2 days. As soon as we stepped into Central Park a hawker managed to [View Full Entry]

We slept in a little bit longer than we planned, but we obviously needed it. Today we are going to walk as much of Manhattan as we can. Out in the street it was cold, but had nothing on yesterday. We grabbed a healthy breakfast, and then headed down Broadway towards downtown New York. The walk took a while, and it was cold enough to make our noses run, but the buildings weren't as high in places, so we got bursts of sunshine which helped. Our goal was Wall Street and the Twin Towers/Ground Zero, and after nearly an hour we [View Full Entry]

Getting off the plane we organised a shuttle quite easily (Super Shuttle). We got out at our hostel, and checked our bags in. Unfortunately we weren't able to check ourselves in until 12.00, so we decided to see the sights. The first things we noticed was how close we were to Broadway and Times Square, and how damn cold it was. The wind between the big, tall buildings froze our faces and made our noses run. It was actually fairly quiet, so we grabbed some brochures and read over them during breakfast at a corner store out of the cold. We [View Full Entry]
