So, we were supposed to be quite excited about going to New York now because I had wanted to go for so long before we even started the trip and the day had finally arrived. However, the Customs guy at Calgary airport saw to it that we didn't feel like that for long.
Tom dropped us off at the airport where we went to get checked in. Of course, as can be expected with us by now, we went to the wrong desk. Flights to USA have their own section so we got taken there by one of the airport staff. The difference being that you don't give up your luggage right away. No. The States are so special that they have their own Customs and Immigration desks in Canada at the airport. Probably so that things go quicker with all the passport checks and stuff.
But the guys at these desks make sure that you never ever want to go to the States ever again before you have even got there. It was the same when we landed in LA, but the guy I got landed with this time was even worse. Where are you going? Why do you want to go to the US? What are all these countries on your immigration slip? What is your profession? How do you fund yourself? This guy was a class one A-hole. They don't get much better than that.
The flight was okay apart from that. We grabbed a shuttle from the airport to the hotel we were staying at and the moment we left the airport, it started raining. Badly. The roads looked like they might flood any minute.
Our hotel room is clean, bit of a shoebox again though and we have to share a bathroom too but I think we made the right choice in going for a private room. There seem to be a lot of weirdos in this hotel. I kind of get the feeling that a lot of people actually live here full time.
We went out to a local diner for dinner and had the best cheesecake ever! Well, that was one good thing about the day!
