Outdoor swimming poolYou probably can't see it on the picture but people literally had to walk halfway into the center of the intersection to avoid the puddle
We woke up pretty late again, same as yesterday. We may still be operating on Calgary time, not New York time yet!
It was raining again which was a bit of a nightmare.
We got out of the hotel by midday and went straight for lunch at one of the most famous bagel houses in New York- H&H Bagels, which was featured in the film "You've got mail". We weren't that impressed really. It literally does just sell bagels and nothing else. They don't even have any fillings to put on the bagels either.
We got on a bus down to Times Square again and decided to go back to the Easy Internet cafe (only because we didn't know where any others were!). We got there only to find that our 4 hour credit had expired. Seeing as the internet part of the cafe is supposed to be self service, there was nobody there to tell us why. The security guard told us to come back on Monday which was when the manager was supposed to turn up next. Great. I think the name "Easy" must be ironic really, seeing as its anything but easy.
When we left the cafe, it
only started raining really hard so we just decided to go straight to the next Starbucks to sit it out again. We ended up spending a really nice afternoon in a Starbucks just off Times Square. We were lucky to get window seats overlooking a street crossing outside. Because it was raining so hard, the road was covered by a massive puddle. You couldn't even jump over this thing it was so damn big which led to a hilarious afternoon of watching people try to contemplate this monstrosity of a puddle. Most of them ended up getting their feet wet to our amusement, but a few cleverer people actually decided to walk around it.
After we had outstayed our welcome at Starbucks, we walked over to the Rockefeller centre even though neither of us really knew what it was. Turns out it's part shopping mall, part offices. I think it must be nicer in the winter when they set up an ice skating rink outside.
We carried on walking, passed by St. Patrick's cathedral and then got on to 5th Avenue. We wanted to see Carnegie Hall but somehow we never made it there. We got distracted by a Lindt
MannequinThis one is actually alive. They didn't put the girl into the showcase which would have probably caused chaos all over the place.
chocolate shop and then by a department store with live models in the windows! There was such a big crowd standing around outside that we had to stop and have a look as well. One of the models looked like he felt really awkward but the other one was getting quite into it, waving at the crowds and striking poses for them!
After that, we saw one of the Trump Towers before carrying on towards Central Park. We walked around past the Central Park Zoo and watched a bit of the sea lion show from outside.
By that time it was getting kind of late so we went back out on to Broadway and decided to go to the cinema to see the Break-up. It didn't start for a while so we bought our tickets and went for dinner at a salad bar nearby. The salad bars in NY are just the best. You basically take a bowl of green salad, take it to the bar and choose your own ingredients and dressing. It tastes amazing. This is what we need in England.
The film was really good, although it had one of those weird endings where you never find
out what happens. One of those where you are supposed to make up your own mind about what happened.
Since we couldn't be arsed to do that we decided to just go back to our hotel, pass the weirdos really quick and go to sleep.
