Today we had another early start, 6am we were awake. It was -5C outside with a wind chill factor of -13C....thats cold! BUT STILL NO SNOW! dammit. The reason we got up so early was because we had to head downtown to battery park to catch the 900 ferry to battery park and we thought that we'd have breakfast midtown before we left, we also tried to account for peak hour on the subway which never really happened because the train was really quiet. so we got to battery park really early and were standing in the freezing cold waiting for 0900 to roll around. It literally was the freezing cold, the water in the gutters had frozen. Icicles were forming on the pipes if the subway, it was all kinds of crazy cold. But we survived. After going through airport style security to get on the boat we went to Liberty Island which, as the name suggests, is where the Statue of Liberty has pride of place. We checked-In and Ben Dad, went through more airport style security (Security is still ridiculously tight over here) to walk up 300+ stairs to the crown. We had to wait 45 minutes before
we went though because they only let about 10 people up at a time, and even though we were fairly early there were still about 30 people in front of us. We couldn't understand why they were letting so little people up there at a time....until we actually went up there. It was a spiral staircase with a diameter of about a metre. There actual steps you could only fit the ball of your foot on, it was crazy...If your legs didn't hurt from the climb your head hurt because you were getting dizzy lol. Once we got up the top the view was somewhat disappointing...it faces the wrong direction! lol. but we can't really blame anyone for that seeing as its been there since the 1800's. We were only at the top for about 10 minutes and then we went back down the stairs again to the bottom. It was too bloody cold and windy so we left liberty island and went back to manhattan. Lauren and Ben went back to the apartment because it was ridiculously cold. Dad, Mum, Granny and myself caught the sunway midtown to the Museum of Natural History, the first thing you see when
you walk in the door is a dinosaur skeleton. It was great. sore lots of amazing things, too many to list. We were here for about 2 hours or so, then went back home for some well served rest. We went for a couple of drinks across the road to Mercury bar for a couple of drinks, it was good fun, played good music. Tomorrow we have another early morning, we're catching the bus to Washington DC. Going to see the white house, capitol hill and all the rest of it.
