Today we headed to the Financial District. Got the ferry across to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. The statue was huge, and Ellis Island (as Andrew said, from Hitch) was really interesting. Went past the famous Bull in the Financial District and then walked up Wall Street. Andrew was so excited, saw the New Yock stock exchange, one of the Trump Buildings, a Tiffanys and a few other fancy buildings. Walked around to ground zero. Is pretty sad. They have only just started building a new One Trade Centre and a memorial. Will be really amazing once done. But will take a while. Also, walked past the Law Courts where they film ‘Law & Order’ and other big movie scenes.
Walked up through Soho, Greenwich Village, ChinaTown, and Little Italy. In Greenwich Village, found Carrie Bradshaw’s house - pretty cool. Then queued up at Magnolia’s Bakery. Got a free Red Velvet Cupcake in the line and bought a few more. The BEST cupcakes ever!!!! Even Andrew appreciated it! Sat in the park and watched a film crew setup for a scene - good fun.
By the time we got back to the apartment, we worked out that we had walked about half the length of the island. Plus extra back and forth from places. Was great walking the streets, got to see how everyone lived and saw a different side to things. On the way back, we stopped at a grocery store and bought essentials, including beer. We can’t believe that beer is so cheap - we got a 12-pack of Budweiser for $13.99!!

Tonight we stopped at a funky American sports bar for dinner and a few more local drinks. Then went on to Central Park and Ice Skated! It was awesome. Unbelievable backdrop and so pretty. Closed at 11pm so we walked back to the apartment. Feet are aching and Andrew has a huge bruise on his leg where he fell over!!
Was a really nice day, but we still crammed heaps in.
