The Statue of Liberty has gone a long way since it was given by France to the United States, it has become a witness of the Global diaspora mainly of African refugees when the New World is trying to build the continental America. The Staten Island used to accommodate the refugees who went sailing from across the Atlantic to find greener pastures. On Monday, our day off, we went exploring again. This time we headed up the New Jersey Turnpike to Liberty Park. We got on the Ferry and crossed over to Ellis Island and then took pictures of the Statue of Liberty as we passed by. It was amazing to listen to the tour guide as he described the events that took place in that building. it made me proud to be an American, realizing the millions of people that were helped through our open immigration policy.... read more
