Well, it's the day before we leave for our trip. The teachers/college students (Jerid, Megan, and Erin) are waiting for the 9-5ers (Krystal, Brady, and Cliff) to get out of work so we can head up to Rochester for the night and be at the airport by 4:30am. For people who don't know all of us going on this trip, here is who we are. FYI, we all live in the Binghamton area currently.
Brady, from upstate NY (knows Erin), met Megan at college, works with Cliff.
Megan, from Adirondacks, met Brady at college, going to local college for Doctorate.
Jerid, Binghamton area native. Met Erin in college, met Krystal (dating 11 months), is a Social Studies teacher in a local district.
Krystal, Rochester native, went to college in NYC, moved to Binghamton.
Cliff, Binghamton native, works with Brady, dating Erin (7 months), going to a local college for his degree.
Erin, from upstate NY (knew Brady), met Jerid in college, teaches Spanish in local school district.
So, basically, we've all known each other for at the very least a few months, if not a few years. It should be noted that there was
a trip to Puerto Rico last year that 7 people went on. 3 are making a second trip, Brady, Jerid and Erin. Megan has been to Puerto Rico before for school.
Why Puerto Rico? Well, Erin's paternal grandmother is a native to the island. Although her grandmother has since passed, Erin still has family in Cabo Rojo - her grandfather and father live there currently. Her grandfather used to build small sailboats by hand (really - no power tools!), and Mr. Feeney bought a few boats from Mr. Walsh. The Feeney's own a house the next town over from the Walsh's, but only use it a few months of the year. So, we will be staying in the Feeney's house while they aren't using it.
Last year, we had a lot of fun adventures. We went to Old San Juan and saw El Morro and the Bicardi Rum factory, we went snorkeling, we hit a few beaches, and saw a lot of funny things that were the source of some inside jokes that continue to this day.
We're looking forward to a great trip with even more fun. We will be doing a lot of things we
didn't get to last year, and do things we did last year that are too much fun to not do again! We look forward to sharing our experiences and hearing what you all have to say about them!
