On to Carlsbad via Roswell...Thought we would see a lot of cool UFO items..NOT! One small museum,a couple of signs. Think the outer space interest has faded here. This was the most foul smelling town we've ever encountered. Found out it is completely surrounded by mega beef cattle holding pens. Oh my! Hurried on to White plains in time to see the lovely sunset but no bats! There was a huge fire in June and all the bats had gone elsewhere for food. The caverns the next day however AWESOME! Never saw anything so massive in our lives. 2 and 1/2 miles downhill all the way into the abyss. Lots of weird formations like popcorn rock, flows, curtains etc. The rooms were very large. The "grand room" was at least 30-40 feet high, some places more and the formations were colossal! Great time of year to be here. No crowds but get to the opening of the cave by 2pm because the upper part closes early during slow season.
