We start the day with a quick cruise through downtown Taos. Starting early, when there is little traffic it takes about 3 minutes. Later when the rest of the tourists are awake, this could take 20 minutes. It’s a little alarming what the traffic through Taos is like. Our destination is the Enchanted Circle. This loop circles the great mountains around Taos and takes you through Angel Fire and Red River at the northernmost tip. High country that is dark and cloudy and cool. For a Tucsonan, this is like heaven. We, however, travel at our own pace. When we see a sign for DH Lawrence’s cabin, we take that right turn onto the dirt road. I wanted to do something here in New Mexico that seemed to fit the area. We traveled up into the Carson National Forest mountains and met a man named Stuart with his 7 beautiful Llamas. We had lunch with the Llamas. We hiked up the mountains with the Llamas carrying our stuff. Everyone loved the Llamas. They are so cute. Stuart, the guide, is a pure lover of nature, the outdoors and his Llamas. He saves abandoned and abused Llamas. He is super knowledgable about the mountains and the flora and fauna. We boogied out early to go to the Cheyenne zoo on the mountain side. Pretty unique...and tiring. The zoo is built into the side of the mountain so you have to climb hills to get to different vantage points and exhibits. I was still feeling light headed and climbing doesn't help your oxygen intake. Paul's hiccups never came back. This zoo lets you really get up close to the animals. The kids liked it. The giraffe's are always cool and these were super friendly. Or hungry. We love the Battlecreek Zoo for the African Encounter where you can feed the giraffes. We celebrated our 3rd anniversary of consecutive travel in the small Baja California town of Playas de Rosarito, Mexico. Our life was beginning to remind us of an extended episode of Amazing Race. We could hear Phil making his speech to us as we reached the mat at the end of the race. (Three years, 16 countries, 3 continents, 65,000 miles and untold number of beds, you are the winners of the Amazing Race….). We were tired and needed a nice place to rest up for a while. We had visited Rosarito before our Europe trip and had liked it. Rosarito is 20 miles south of the US border at Tijuana and has virtually the same beaches and weather as San Diego for less than half the price. Geo: 36.4072, -105.573Still had not decided what to do for our anniversary when we awakened on anniversary morning. Then......................let's go to Taos. Fixed a mercola smoothie, gathered up a few things and off we went to Taos.As we were driving along the river it began to snow all the way to Taos. Decided to have brunch at the Old Martina Inn. What a delightful place. They gave us a glass of champagne to help us celebrate our anniversary. Had a spicy Eggs Benedict that was so very delicious.From there to Casa Benevides where we had a beautiful room awaiting us. Rested a bit before heading out to look around town.
