Saturday August 13 Ruidoso I had a full day in Ruidoso. I went to the Hubbard Museum of the American West which was supposed to have a display of Western Paintings but it had been canceled to my great disappointment, Then the Billy the Kid Visitor Center which has a museum on the Lincoln County wars, and the Ruidoso River museum which has a floor of exhibits on the Lincoln County Wars as well as other exhibits on other floors and outside. Then I went to one of the Casino’s here to see if they had a good buffet but they didn’t so I left. After that I drove up to the top of the 10,000 feet Montjea Lookout. It had a very rough and rocky road going up and in most places I was in ... read more
While I was home in Phoenix in November/December I thought I'd be staying there until April or so, but Seaver called me to come back to work in New Mexico. There was opportunity for advancement in this small company and I would be the most experienced instructor. The schedule would be different now…instead of 16 days on and 12 days off we were going to 8 days on and 6 days off so there would be more continuity in instructors. On top of that there were only going to be 4 instructors, and the partner you got was the one you kept. At first I was pretty skeptical about the schedule, but after doing it for almost 4 months now…I think it's better for the kids and the program. With only 6 days off my travel ... read more
Spring break weekend in Ruidoso
Published: April 11th 2009North America » United States » New Mexico » RuidosoIt was the beginning of Spring Break and we wanted to find an easy destination to go to. Why not Ruidoso, New Mexico? Ruidoso is a mountain resort town in the south central section of New Mexico. It is a popular destination for Texans who want to escape the summer heat and enjoy the alpine scenery. The Mescalero Apache operates a hotel casino - Inn of the Mountain Gods - and a ski resort right outside of Ruidoso. Our journey took us through Alamogordo and Tularosa, NM - known for their speed traps. A friendly advice - stay within the speed limit especially if you have a Texas plate. There was also a border checkpoint before Alamogordo. After all, this is the corridor for illegal immigrants coming through Mexico. We noticed the presence of sheriffs, in ... read more
Day 18 Colorado Springs to Ruidoso
Published: July 31st 2008North America » United States » New Mexico » RuidosoDay 18 July 21 Colorado Springs to Ruidoso We drove to Ruidoso. Very uneventful except for a stop at a roadside park where I found a cell phone. I called the listing for Mom and mailed it to her so she could send it back to her son who was on his way to take his wife to a doctor in Mexico. It felt so good to get back to Ruidoso. They had a lot of rain so everything was very wet. For several days we just laid around except for a trip to Alamogordo to see Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D. It was a lot of fun. We also went to The Annual Ruidoso Art Show and saw a lot of interesting works. Saturday, July 26, we drove to Dallas to ... read more
We arrived on July 28 bringing in rain with us. The area had been under a drought and had closed the Lincoln National Forest. We were relieved to hear it was opening on July2. Linda, Paul, Rocky and Tribble joined us on July 2 very early in the morning. Paul's parents, Julie and Derek arrived on July 3. Maggie and Rosie are staying with Linda and Paul. It was a big decision for us but its hard to travel in the summer with dogs. I'm sure they will have a lot of fun with Rocky and Tribble and learn a lot from Linda the Dog Whisperer.... read more
