The bike is ready and I am all packed and ready to go. The weather looks good for the first few days. I will be traveling alone this time, I am curious to see how it is different and whether or not I like it. I have to be in Key West by Wednesday the 8th of May, so I will have to average 350 miles a day - shouldn't be too hard except that I have only been on the bike 3 rimes since I got back from the cross country trip last September so I expect that the first few days I will be very, very sore.... read more

Day 33 Did I mention that I was anxious to get home? I woke at 3 am and couldn't get back to sleep, so I got up at 4 and went to the breakfast room to work on the netbook. I went too the room and woke Bill and Rick, hoping to leave by 6 - 6:30. Alas, it was not to be. I felt like I was herding cats, trying to get those two moving. We left at 7 and then I wasted 15 minutes by making a wrong turn into Lexington (at least we got to see the Citadel). It was very cold (39 degrees) and threatened rain. At our first gas stop we learned that Bills gloves were not working. So he said he wanted to stop at a Harley dealer to replace ... read more

Well, here we are again, all packed and ready to go. It looks like the weather tomorrow will be good - a little on the warm side, but not too hot. We are meeting for breakfast at 7 and should be on the road by 8 - hopefully it is late enough that we miss the commuter traffic near Fort Washington. I am really glad that we delayed starting by two days, it gave nme a chance to relax after a crazy hectic weekend, allowed us to isolate and fix a radio problem, and most importantly, I got to pick up my grandchildren from their first day of kindergarten (Cassidy) and pre-k (Everett). With any luck, my next post will be from somewhere in Ohio tomorrow evening.... read more

It's good that we delayed our departure, it turns out that there was a problem with my GMRS radio which allows us to communicate with each other while we are riding. It took us almost two hours to locate the problem and fix it. It has been raining off and on all day with brutal high humidity, which is a bitch to ride in because the face shield fogs up and you have even less visibility.... read more

The weather doesn't seem to want to cooperate. The remnants of hurricane Isaac are bringing thunderstorms to the northeast and another weather front is bringing rain to the Midwest, so we are going to delay the start until Wednesday or Thursday, most probably Thursday.... read more

Well, here we are the day before we begin - all of the planning is done, the motorcycles are customized, and all of our bags are packed. The weather report is a little discouraging, though. There is a 60% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow, but we are not planning on postponing unless it is really a bad storm. I have uploaded a jpeg of our planned route - pretty much just hopping from National Park to National Park by the most scenic route we could find with a few stops to see friends thrown in. I'm really excited - we are going to see some breathtaking scenery, and I'm sure we will meet a lot of interesting people. I'm also looking forward to seeing my buddies reaction when they see the great plains, rocky mountains, etc. because ... read more

We went to the Tower of London today. It was originally a prison, but then it transformed into a vault. The vault holds many priceless items from the kings and queens of England, such as, King Henry VIII, Queen Victoria's crowns and armour and other priceless items. Many people were executed right on the lawn in front of the old monarch's house. Harrods was just Macy's only much larger. It was very crowded and very expensive. You could easily get lost. THe only thing I liked there was the Egyptian escalator. ... read more

First we went to Windsor Castle, which was huge. The walls were high, and the queen owns one side of the castle and the king another. There are many guards there because the queen goes to Windsor Castle during the summer vacation time. There are lots of paintings on the wall, statues, and priceless objects. Next we saw Stonehenge. It is a very stunning view of a prehestoric statue. It is a circle of rocks, but it is somehow shaped like a calendar. You are not allowed to get close to the rocks because people will try to break off a piece of them to take home. No one knows how it was formed, or what it was used for, but it could have been a calendar, a prehistoric temple, or a very fancy house from ... read more

Hello Everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You might already know this but, I am currently wrapping up final preparations for the greatest adventure ever! Will be leaving for South America on January 4th and beginning a 4-6 month road trip through Argentina, Brazil and beyond. Expected objectives: 1) quit job, 2) tour the south of Argentina, 3) Iguazu Falls, 4) Carnival in Brazil, 5) go surfing, 6) ride a llama in the andes mountains, 7) Machu Picchu, 8) take a car, bus, boat, or al paca back to the U.S.A (god bless us), 9) think of 1 more objective to bring my total number of objectives to 10, and 10) make appropriate additions to the list as I see fit, completely undermining the whole "list-of-10-objectives" idea. 11) find and eat the world's greatest burrito. I hope to inform everyone of ... read more
