I didn't want to make my first hike back east too easy... So my friend, Tom had this hike out in the White Mountains that he had been planning for twenty years or so. He pitched the idea of doing this hike before I started my new job as a public educator and suffering from a little mountain withdrawal, I said "sure, let's see what the White Mountains look like". I wasn't sure exactly what to expect as I have never played out in the White Mountains before. If you aren't familiar with the White Mountains let me inform you of [View Full Entry]

Wow... It's been a long time since I've seen the internet! What is one to do? I've managed to make it all across New Hampshire and not have a single chance to fill you all in. I'm doing well and currently hanging out in the library on the Dartmouth University campus. I'll be spending the night at one of the fraternity houses. I've already stopped in there to shower and drop off my pack. New Hampshire has been wonderful! As soon as I hit the first town (Gorham) I noticed a difference in the trail. The AMC (Appalachian Mountain Club... AKA... [View Full Entry]

The 3rd leg of the ACE (Abel/Cashore Engagement) tour took place in Windham, New Hampshire this past weekend. Many of Rebecca's family members (from her Mom's side) live up there. They were very hospitable and welcoming to us. We spent the day in Boston, checking out their favorite sites. We went on a harbor tour of Boston, and checked out a great Italian restaurant in the north end. [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone! So right now I am sitting at home just having said good bye to my friends and am now waiting for my parents to get done doing whatever it is they are doing. In about 30 minutes we shall be heading off to the airport...ahh! I have never traveled to a different country by myself before and I am very anxious/scared! My travel time is almost 24 hours from the time I leave Boston, MA and the time I arrive in Salvador, Brazil at 4:05pm TOMORROW!!! I'm totally freaking out that I might have forgotten to pack something and [View Full Entry]

High above the clouds
on Mt. Washington Auto Road going up to the summit. It was kind of hot.
I was hoping to catch a sunrise at the summit early morning today. And by early I mean 3:30 am. That was when the gate was opened to visitors. This isn't a routine, it happens only 3 times a year and we just happened to be there on one of those days. Doug was kind of hoping the same but we both knew how we are like when it comes to getting up that early. Yeah, I guess you know we didn't make it. When I first opened my eyes that morning, I heard the rain. That gave us a reason [View Full Entry]

taking you through Lost River Gorge.
About 2.5-hour drive from Boston and we were in Franconia, New Hampshire. We have already entered White Mountain National Forest and all I can tell is that it's huge and there are several places to visit: waterfalls, view points, trails, caves, and forest. I definitely have things to keep me busy when I'm here again. Lost River Gorge, just a few miles off of route 3 to the west, belongs to a private party and is open to public for a fee of $13. The entire trail is boardwalk helps protect plants on the ground from tourist's footsteps. I took pleasure [View Full Entry]

So it has been a long and arduous journey UP the clyde river which is very labryinthine and swampy and beaverish and slow moving. You definitely get to see a lot of river birds (we saw some hawks, ospreys, and a bald eagle) and it is kind of easy to get turned around, but after a long day of oxbows, reeds, blowdowns (lots of trees in front of the river), lillypads and rain we made it twenty miles up the Clyde to Island Pond! It was late and Brett and I decided to grab an all you can eat Seafood platter [View Full Entry]

Hi, Everyone Well, there is one week left before I am a Caribbeaner... AAAHHHH!!!! To keep you all posted, I have moved out of my apartment in Boston and am back home in NH. I, without a doubt, will be missing Boston, but it is nice to spend a few days at home before I leave. I only hope my Jeep holds out for another week.... So this is basically the last move before Dominica. Having said that, I have a new American number where you can all contact me free of charge - it's 617.326.7675 This number is actually through [View Full Entry]

Please read the following 2 blogs. For our trip to New Hampshire this February. Here are a couple of our other pictures. After the snow fall on Saturday we hit the Xcountry trails again. This time on a tracked and groomed open field. Moat Mountain Pub and microbrewery was a stop after our skiing and snowshoeing. We also took a ride up to Jackson and the Eagle Mountain House for a beer and reminisced of times past when we had been here with other friends. [View Full Entry]
