ALOT, alot alot, has happened this week! So our day off last Thursday, we decided to go to Lindy's diner for breakfast... and of course the American sized portions meant we ordered far too much food. Decided to drive out to Boston, got as ar as the state line and thought sack that lets go to the beach... 'Hampton beach' not the posh one we see from Sex and The city... the hillbilly version, but it was still good fun, the ocean was freezing but we had a competition to see who could go in the furthest... of course I [View Full Entry]

So, finally my first entry after being back here at camp in New Hampshire for the third year! Leaving the Netherlands in the early hours of a Sunday morning, I slept through most of my journey to New York. In New York I had a few hours at the airport, which I spent trying to find my way around JFK airport, even the staff wasn't always able to tell me where my terminal or gate was... No wonder, when I saw my propeller plane, operated by "Freedom Airlines" - it was tiny and only had about 9 rows. Unlike the [View Full Entry]

Well it's been a great week so far, a few firsts - rock climbing, sailing, canoeing and a brush with border patrol, who were a long way from the border... I didn't have my passport with me but gave them my passport number which I have now memorised after filling it in so many times. Thursday I went rock climbing for the first time ever, did the VH1 climb at Echo Crag in Franconia Notch. I went with Tyler and Nick who are leading the climbing trips for camp. It was grade 5-7 and I got stuck at one point (the [View Full Entry]

Hello! Thank you for the lovely comments, made me smile in the Keene state college library. Saturday night we had our camp fire which was fun... I was tribe chief for the green team. So the Kids arrived on Sunday... Two of them took trunks which are twice the size of them and guess who had to sort them out.. I quote one child 'ooh, you took fruit loops?' 'Yeah, my Mom gave them to me incase I get home sick...' She's the only kid I'm having trouble with, refusing to eat and saying she wants to go home after every [View Full Entry]

The Solaris 40
My new best friend ... the Solaris 40
I'm sitting here at home waiting for the stores to open up so I can make some last-minute returns. I made my big shopping trip last night and I successfully packed all that I'll need for my 2-month trip in a streamlined, 2,350 cu. in. "day pack." The salesman at EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) thought I was crazy when I pointed out the Solaris 40. But he was soon on board after I informed him that I would be washing my nylon clothes nightly in the bacteria-filled hostel sinks. Of course, I didn't sleep last night at all. I'm pretty [View Full Entry]

Logan Airport (Boston)

Howdy y'all! Well It's Friday and its my fifth FULL day of being at Camp Wa-klo! The DVD didn't quite do it justice... It's a million times better. No 'cell' reception unless I sit on a hill behind 'Roy Kit' the food hall and texts are 50p so I'm watching my pennies. Anyhoo, flight was great, mini tvs so got a bit of Leo and a bit of Reynolds, thank GOD for my DS! would have gone insane without it. Went from the airport to customs, faffing about with visa papers, bus to the Ramada in Newark, drove past the Manhattan [View Full Entry]

What a long few days - I'm sitting here at 6am after having the best sleep ever - a solid 8 hours. I was in bed last night going through some photos after dinner and a shower (1st since Monday night) and I almost dropped the camera on my face I was so tired... I've had only had about 10hrs sleep over 4 days. At the orientation meeting I thought the hotel was moving but it was just me... in the 18hrs of travel time from Melb-Auckland-LA I had about 1hr sleep - I watched 5 movies on the plane! Day One's potential route KatieLocation: Londonderry, NH [Apparently TravelBlog doesn't understand that there are more than 5 towns in NH that people could be reporting from. That could get interesting as I try to update from obscure towns along the way!] While DJ is up at the storage bin having them pack his things, I decided to create this blog to keep our loved ones informed of our great journey across country. At DJ's (temporary) Goodbye party, Lissa suggested that we keep a journal and that we [View Full Entry]
