Today is family visiting day at camp, mostly grandparents come this weekend and parents will come the next weekend. So we had extra cabin cleanup time this morning and we then waited on the front lawn for the grandparents to come! It was so emotional for me to see the girls and their siblings run to their grandparents and give them hugs and kisses! The girls were so excited to show them the cabin and the grandparents had many many gifts for them….tons and tons of candy that will need to be “disposed” of at the end of the day!! (Campers are not supposed to have any kind of food in the cabins and we are supposed to throw it away, but it mostly just stays in the counselor’s room!) It was really nice to meet all the grandparents, and they were all so excited to meet me and see the cabin and the camp. There is one girls whos grandparents did not come; Julia, so she went on a hike with Amberlynn and the rest of the junior girls who did not have visitors today.
Normally boys are not able to go in girl’s cabins and girls are not able to go in boys cabins but today and next Saturday are exceptions. So I was able to see the boys side of the camp and the cabins are definitely different than the girls cabins.
The people out here are definitely different also!! For example, when I asked where a lot of them were from they all responded, “well, we are from here but our summer home is here” they also all dress differently, cardigans over the shoulders, tons of jewelry and make up….I have been trying to take lots of pictures so I can try to explain what I mean!!! I also walked into a couple boys cabins and found out that one boy has 2 fathers….very well dressed fathers!!! Both of them direct movies….Dodge ball is the only one I recognized him saying but he has 2 other movies coming out in winter. They also were talking about having homes in CA, NY and in Connecticut, and one in Montreal while filming there. Lunch today was picnic style…wondrous fresh fruit! As a counselor my job was to just roam around and help the families with directions and conversation. The parents then left around 4ish and we had to get ready for the BBQ and square dancing…..a normal Saturday night. So off to the BBQ where we enjoyed Hamburgers, hotdogs and DIET COKE; ice cream sandwiches for dessert! Square dancing was fun but the kids were so loud and rambunctious from the day that it was hard to get them quiet, so we did not do much dancing, just a lot of shushing. After dancing we had hot snack and then off to the cabin to consume as much candy as they could before it got disposed of. So, again hyper hyper girls…..took a while for bed! I was so sick of the candy that I was ready to give it all up when they came to collect it….did not keep any for myself because tomorrow night is CWW Halloween and then Monday night is candy night at camp, and next weekend their parents come and they bring so much MORE candy!!! So we definitely do not have starving children at camp, food always seems to be around. After the girls went to bed there was a dodge ball tournament, I did not sign up a team fast enough but it was so much fun to watch and it was super loud……you could hear the noise across the WhoLe camp…..it is funny how noise travels here!
