Las Vegas... You Beast...
Published: August 11th 2012North America » United States » Nevada » Las Vegas...but before I get to Vegas itself, here is the story of our journey to Vegas. Unfortunately, I only get 15 minutes on this computer so I'm going to have to keep this quick! As is the Pollard custom, we arrived at the airport outrageously early, and then spent 4 hours wandering around and experiencing the many delights of Gatwick airport. Once we finally boarded the plane, we were politely advised by the pilot that an engineer had spotted an unknown fluid dripping from the left wing. After 4 and a half hours sitting in the unmoving plane, whilst the engineers carried out investigations and attempted repairs, we were again politely advised that the flight would have to be cancelled, and rescheduled for the following day. Sad times, we thought. But as the very friendly people ... read more
Holy heat!! Walking into 39 degrees at ten this morning was rather out of our comfort zone…Scott loved it but Annie couldn’t walk 5 minutes without melting! We must’ve got through six litres of water today; we have never been so hot and the humidity is unbearable at times. It was refreshing to walk in and through the hotels with their ice cold air con, we only managed about 4 today though; they’re huge! The Venetian is amazing; indoor rivers, gondolas and Annie had to resist buying from the Thomas Sabo shop! Caesar’s Palace is too massive to comprehend, we easily got lost in a lot of the hotels. The Bellagio was Annie’s favourite with the free cookies in the lobby ;) and of course the fountain show outside – Waw! - the only way to ... read more
FUN few days in Vegas! Started with breakfast @ Lisa's fav restaurant, Mon Ami Gabi (check out our fruit salad bouquet!) and then took a trip up the Eiffel Tower @ the Paris Hotel (learnt that Kel isnt really a fan of heights..he,he,he.). Enjoyed yummy frozen daiquiri's in the 'scorchio' heat (please refer to the dictionary of Nicki and Darcie G :-)), walked the entire strip and shopped...shopped....shopped at Miracle Mile et al. Saw the musical fountains at the Bellagio (A-M-A-Z-E), stopped @ Serendipity (Vick's favourite movie) for the all-famous frozen hot chocolate and hit the Kardashian Khaos store. Day 2 morning we need time to revover from the night before....so....we had a chillaxing few hours around the pool (well chillaxing until a DJ and half of Vegas turned up for a pool party......only in Vegas.......!!!) ... read more
After an extended journey, due to the bus breaking down near Death Valley (we were told last week we’d only have two hours to live if this happened there) we finally arrived in Vegas at 7 o’clock and it was still 42 degrees! We have already found out in our short time here, it was well worth the journey! Our room is luxury, and at only £15pp a night you’ll see from the pictures it was a bargain! We haven’t seen further than Fremont Street and already we love it (don’t think Scotty will want to leave with the live DJ’s and party atmosphere, it’s right up his street!) We’ve been wowed already and we’ve only been here for three hours, hence the lack of photos. But seriously, waw!!! This place is better than we ever ... read more

Published: August 16th 2012North America » United States » Nevada » Las VegasThursday 02/08/12 – I woke up naked and sweating at 7 am this morning. The heat was almost unbearable, its definitely not camping country… We packed up our gear whilst trying to chat with the locals, they seem to have an unusual dialect here, I think it’s the redneck, trailer trash, hills have eyes, I was engaged to my sister but not anymore - dialect. I later found out that the US government has, and continues to, bury nuclear waste not far from this town, I’ll leave you to finish my thoughts on this… We travelled on the highway enduring temperatures in the 40’s again; luckily we reached our destination of Las Vegas in a little over an hour. We checked into the hotel early and we couldn’t believe we were staying in an air-conditioned room ... read more
20th July Up nice and early still feeling bad about losing our dollars last night. Packed up and looking forward to the prospect of an McDonalds breakfast. Something that we hadn't made it for in previous days. I actually got a round of applause from the lads when I managed to choke down a sausage mcmuffin after giving my throat 5 times the recommended dosage of numbing spray. It still hurt but the big dog needs to chow down after 2 days of pretty much nothing. Joe had a late flight so we said our goodbyes with manly hugs and we got in a taxi to the greyhound station. I thought I had said goodbye to the bloody greyhound but it continues to pop up in my life over and over again. The reason this time ... read more
Thursday 19th of July I felt a little bit better by now after a few rest nights. The atmosphere between is all had died down a little. Steve our token Australian had gone and the Wolfpack are gone from 5 to 4. I spent a few hours that morning talking to friends from home, talking to family on Skype. And I managed to get in touch with one of our friends we met while we had out here. Annalise bless her heart was in Las Vegas, I had said to her before parted of she was most welcome to stay with us in our hotel. Unfortunately due to lack of wifi we had been able to communicate properly with each other. She had ended up finding a hostel in Las Vegas on staying there. But while ... read more
