I am back in the states now, staying with my parents while I work to get things in order for my coming move south. I've had some time to think about my big trip, and wanted to share a few of my highlights and some things that made me go "meh", okay. So here we go! Yay list! New York - A Streetcar Named Desire on Broadway Iceland - Glaciar hiking and attempting to ice climb France- Beaches of Normandy, the Eiffel Tower and the fountain art at Versailles Switzerland - the beauty of the Alps Italy - Urban graffiti in Venice, body acceptance on the beach, Michelangelo's Last Judgment Jordan - Just in general Jordan was awesome, but the bedouin family I stayed with at a camp site really topped my list. Fellow travelers in ... read more
Around the world in eighty days
Published: May 11th 2012North America » United States » Nevada » ElkoThis Sunday I will be starting my trip trip around the world. A trip that, quite coincidentallY, will last 80 days. Heres a quick rudown of my itinerary: New York Iceland England France Possible short trip to Amsterdam, not sure, it is only three or so hours away from Paris by train! Or Switzerland Slovenia has some cool caves I wanna check out Italy Jordan Israel Egypt UAE, specifically Abu Dhabi China Taiwan It is quite an aggressive timeline, but with most rooms, train tickets and modes of transportation already booked, it is a manageable trip I believe. I have found foster homes for my pets for these three months and will hopefully hear about the phd program I have applied to whole on the road. This has always been a dream of mine, so I ... read more

I'll have images and fun stuff from the trip posted here :).... read more
Day 7 - Provo, UT - Elko, NV
Published: August 15th 2011North America » United States » Nevada » ElkoHad a great night sleep last night. Theo and I actually got to share a king size bed. It was luxury. We left early and headed north to Salt Lake for a view of the Mormon Temple and then headed east towards Elko, Nevada. Once we came into Salt Lake it was very smoggy and they had signs posted about poor air quality. It was awful; you couldn’t see the mountains at all. We are now headed across the salt flats and were able to see the Great Salt Lake. It was very beautiful but hard to see with all the smog. We made a quick stop in Wendover Nevada home of the base that housed the Enola Gay. The Enola Gay was the historical plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in 1945. The ... read more
One day to go and I am bouncing off the walls! Wrapping up last minute details, fretting over my pets and work and behind it all extremely excited, scared and over caffeinated - awesome mix. So if you are like me, you are curious as to what to pack for a 16 - day adventure! I'm forcing myself to get my pack under 20lbs, or somethings got to go. I'll photo-shop in different outfits once I get home before I'll carry more than 20lbs on my back around 5 countries! I'm at about 15lbs right now, pack included, and have included the following: 4 tee-shirts, tanks 1 long sleeve shirt Swimsuit and trunks (sauna here we come!!) Well we managed to avoid the snow, and the weather here in Elko has been perfect. Yesterday we did the Lamoille Byway which is about 70 miles or a half day drive. The area is simply beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife and birds, and since neither of us has been through this part of Nevada we were pleasantly surprised. In the afternoon, we headed to the living ghost town of Tuscarora. Jim read that there are world renowned artists that live in Tuscarora for the solitude. Well, that is no joke. Solitude is all you will find out there. The interesting part of this ghost town is the old cemetery. Crumbling headstones of good old boys fill the lot. I could almost feel the history of cowboys and miners in the air when we walked ... read more
Hello from Elko! We have decided to stay here a little longer than first expected since there is a storm passing overhead. Elko is a charming little town surrounded by the Ruby Mountains. The outskirts are teaming with things to do which Jim can’t resist. We visited the Northeaster NV Museum yesterday and the history of this area is full of trains and cowboys. Real cowboys. They had a display of old guns and saddles and it also has a huge collection of Ansel Adams’ original photos. Last night we had dinner at what we were told was the best Basque restaurant in town, The Star. It is an old Basque style hotel with a restaurant on the bottom floor. The waitress informed us that they ring the dinner bell before opening for business and the ... read more
Well we arrived last night in Elko, NV. There is still snow on the surrounding mountains and it does not feel at all like the desert Nevada you would expect. It is a country feel mountain town that has a relaxed setting and a busy underbelly. While we are here we are staying at the Iron Horse RV Resort. When we got here last night, it was pretty dark so we didn’t do much looking around. This morning I had a chance to do my walk around the resort and check everything out. It certainly isn’t as big as I had imagined, but it has a small community feeling. In speaking with some of our neighbors, I found they have a large portion of permanent residents. This is always a good sign! It means they maintain ... read more
