Arrived in Missoula, close to to Glaciers NP, NW corner of Montana, after a week of great nature in the "Wild West", camping high up in the Black Hills (we escaped the snow) and Yellowstone (enjoyable days, freezing nights) and recovering at local motels.
September 8, The Badlands From Minneapolis we drove to Sioux Falls, South Dakota just over the border with Minnesota: endless roads driving 90 to 95 miles an hour (just not hit the 100, my little '98 car does really well and proud to say it gives me 40 miles a gallon................no progress in almost 10 years!!). I passed the city of Holland with a population of 215 and of course lots of cows, stopped at
Pipestone, home for the making of the native american peace pipe out of red clay. After a night out, yes there is a good place for dancing on '80s music here, I continued on our way to
The Badlands: if you have been to the
Painted Hills in Oregon, imagine that 100 fold..........and some of the pictures will tell you more. An eroding place (although there is still lots of time to see it, clay like hills will be disappeared aproximately
the year 502,008 AD), colors from the Fe and Mn minnerals. And the first encounter with the few "childrens" of the once 50 millions bisons living hear, prior to the appearance of the "White Men"
