Sorry guys - there won't be any pictures as of this writing due to the fact that the chip for the camera is in the car and all of us are too tired to go get it. The kids are hanging with us on this road trip. Today was a very long driving day and only two stops which made all of us pretty cranky. April & Danny did manage to squeak out at least one paragraph describing the events today. We have been very lucky these last couple of nights in getting a hotel room. As we always do, or don't do, we never made any hotel reservations because we really didn't know where we would stop for the night. Here is where Jill comes in handy. We just type the name of the small town we are stopping at and use the old cell phone to call for reservations. There are three questions we ask; 1) do you have wi-fi; 2) do you have a pool; and 3) do you have a continental breakfast. Hope you enjoy the short entries tonight and we'll upload pictures of today tomorrow. - Rhonda
We started at the same time as yesterday
Gateway ArchLooking at the shadow of the Gateway Arch from the top. It was awesome!
morning. We had breakfast at the hotel and it was O.K. We're on our way to the first attraction of the day, which I no have idea what it is. Which means it will be a surprise! It was the St Louis Arch and it is 630 feet high and it looked about 2 or 3000 feet high. When you got to the tram it could hold about 5 people in it. So the whole family got to be in one alone and on the way up it sort of jerked a little but it was fun. I can tell you that when you got to the top it was slanted so you almost fell. It took 4 min. to get to the top and 3 min. to get back down because it was down hill of course. It was awesome when you got to the top because you could see everywhere including inside the baseball stadium. Then you got to go down on either the north tram or the south one, because we went up on the south one we went down on the north.
Say hello to Day Three. We started at nine-ish, again. And we got
continental breakfast, but they didn’t have normal Cheerios, so I had to have Raisin Bran. So off we went, we got gas at the Flying J, and then turned around to get a picture of us “picnicking” by the giant Santa Clause that looked over an abandoned gas station. We still had pizza left over, from lunch and dinner the day before, so we pretended to eat the pizza at the picnic table by Santa’s feet. I actually ate some of the crust of one, it smelled so good. After our Santa adventure, we headed off to St Louis, to see the Arch. We finally got to the Arch in St Louis, and we went up to the top. That was so cool, you could look down and see the shadow of the Arch, and we got a picture of it. After the Arch, we went to eat lunch, this was at, like, three-thirty four-ish. We ended up eating at another place that was on the show Diners, Dives, and Drive-ins. It was the Iron Barley, it was an interesting place. The owner was a top chef, or almost top chef, at a high-bucks hotel, and decided he wanted his
own restaurant. The food there was amazing, this “sammiche” that was their specialty had chunky peanut butter, strawberry jam, American cheese, bacon, bananas, and red pepper flakes. And, it was toasted. At first, everybody was like, bleh, gross. But we had to try it. And it was amazing. Dad had Schnitzel and Spaetzle, while Danny and I spilt a Watermelon Salad. After, we had a piece of Peanut Butter Cheesecake, it had ceyenne pepper in the cake and jalepeno chunks in the whipped cream, it also sounded really wierd, but it was so good. That’s all that has happened today, so I will update sometime tonight.
Welcome to the Super Eight Motel. This is a suite, all because they gave our room to someone else. Nothing of interest happened since I last updated. Well, goodnight.
