Man, is it freezing out here! A little storm rolled in and with it came freezing rain, snow and wind. The temperature was listed at 13 degrees, but with the wind chill it was listed at 5 degrees. Not exactly weather to try out your favorite swimsuit. Yesterday was cold and windy, but at least the sun was out. In fact, yesterday we went to Ozzie's, Ozzie Smith's restaurant on a nicer area of town (for those of you who do not know, Ozzie Smith is a Hall of Famer major league ballplayer who played with the Cardinals). It was nice [View Full Entry]

Exactly one week following my quick trip to Kansas City I decided to make a trip to the other end of Missouri and visit St. Louis again. I haven't counted but I think this was probably my fifth or sixth trip to St. Louis and somehow I have managed to take most of these trips during the winter months. In this case I could have done much better in timing my visit as I missed all the Mardi Gras parties by one week. Either way, it was good to see Josh again, and this time around Kate came along too. This was damn good, better than Greek Village Inn from Sac-Town.
Today was another good day. Although I was woken up at 3:00 AM by people talking and microwaving stuff and was tired most of the morning and early afternoon, we still all had a good time. Started off with some grubbin' Greek food, and then headed out to Forrest Park to check out their history museum. St. Louis was the site for one of the World Fairs. back when they used to have them, and of course Charles Lindbergh, first to make a solo trans-Atlantic flight, was from St. Louis, so they were hightlights of the museum. I was mostly impressed [View Full Entry]

You know, it's amazing when you are in a city that not only has its attractions open to everyone, but also doesn't charge for it! Wow! But first things first. Started out with a breakfast at the one and only Bob Evans (sorry Mr. Meade, I forgot to take a photo for you). Nothing like an omelette to start out your day! Frank had to work, so Paul, Matt, Thom and I went to the Science Museum in Forrest Park. For those of you who do not know, Forrest Park is the second-largest metropolitan park in the United State, behind only [View Full Entry]

Or maybe it's just an oil rig. I don't know. But it is in Oklahoma.
So I left Dallas and my buddy Ronn behind yesterday and headed out to St. Louis area, particularly to O’Fallon, Missouri. This meant driving through the rest of Texas, Oklahoma, and most of Missouri. That was a LOT of driving for one day, but after driving through West Texas it wouldn’t be a problem. So I figured I would try to get one good night’s sleep before I left. Went to bed around 1 AM (that is much better than what I have been averaging, believe me). Opened the window a few inches because there was a light breeze that was [View Full Entry]

Karen and I ascended St. Louis' Gateway Arch, the morning of November 12, 1983. From the top of the Arch, we saw Busch Stadium on one side and the Mississippi River and McDonald's riverboat, where we ate lunch, on the other. The Arch is huge. It is part of the Thomas Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The museum below stresses the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark expedition the following year. These events kicked off America's movement west. Karen took a picture of me in front of a stagecoach. I took one of her in front of a covered wagon. Leaving [View Full Entry]

The Gateway Arch. Rumours McDonalds wants to put a second one rigth next door are unfounded.
Left Chris' place early yesterday, but my bus of choice was sold out, so I had another 5 hour wait in a bus terminal until 3.30, meaning I didn't get to St Louis until 11pm. I'd decided to splash out though and book myself into the Hilton here though, so at least I had a night of relative luxury ahead. Awoke at 10, and head a quite expensive omelette for breakfast before going to see the sights. First on the list was the Gateway Arch, a huge structure representing the status of St Louis as Gateway to the west. It was [View Full Entry]

Hello again, I'm going to try to keep this up. At least until I get off the road this Spring. As you can tell I made it home just fine. My plane landed on the 6th and I was back to work on the 12th. It's been full on ever since. I spent one week in Nashville but now in the midst of 10 weeks on the road, which will be followed by another 7 weeks on the road. I'll post when I can, mostly just to keep my sanity I'm not really concerned if people are reading it or not. [View Full Entry]

Hello Loyal Followers; I doubt anyone has actually read this yet. Anyway, I'm still here in St. Louis and glad to report that the countdown has begun. 38 days and counting. That's just over a month! I can't believe it! There are so many things I need to buy (including a backpack) and pack and arrange and think about. So much arranging. I could never be a secretary. Lest I forget, I must mention the fact that there are 2 weeks of school left and I am so totally unprepared for finals. It's amazing how much of a slacker I really [View Full Entry]

Aunt Jane and Uncle Frank
Aunt Jane and Uncle Frank
Uncle Frank is my father's youngest son and only 6 years older than me. He is a retired fire fighter and winters over in San Padre Island, TX.
From St Louis we traveled to Kansas City, MO. We stayed at the Basswood Country Resort in Platte City, MO. I spent Thanksgiving with my Aunt Jane, Uncle Frank, Cousin Kathy and her husband Ed at their beautiful house. On Saturday and Sunday I spent the day at my Uncle Frank and Aunt Jane's house, reminiscing about old time. On Sunday Kathy and Ed came over with their two grandkids. Basswood is a very nice RV park. It would be even nicer in the summer. I had a pull thru with full hookups. They had nice facilities and I highly recommend [View Full Entry]
