The Vendor Exhibit Hall EntranceAh yes, the free pens, luggage tags and pamphlets galore! Not to mention a very good book on Monroe County land owners with maps.
School began today, so only a couple of pictures I'm afraid.
After the 8am welcoming session, the first workshop I attended was entitled "Missouri: The Show-Me State" where I learned about many of the major repositories of records for Missouri. I plan to visit probably half of these next week, probably one a day.
During lunch I went to Crown Center, a mall linked to the hotel and under the Hallmark World Headquarters. Yes, Hallmark as in cards and such Hallmark. It started here in Kansas City. This picture is from the courtyard above the mall. Oh, and I ate at the Crayola Cafe, complete with crayons and coloring (I'm in the US now so it's not colouring) placemats.
Next up was "Transcription: Simple Rules, Powerful Results" which gets down to the nitty-gritty of recording the results of a search. It seems it is just as I suspected---I must write down every single little thing, an exact copy, included incorrect spelling and grammar.
Finally I learned about "Iron Rails Across America". I'm hoping some of the repositories I learned about might turn up the Painter employee from the late 1800s.
While I was booked to go to a Reception this evening,
I came back to my room and promptly fell asleep. It's been many many years since I've done so much learning in so short a period. Hopefully I'll get to another Reception I've booked into for tommorow evening.
In unrelated (ha ha ha) news, Mom, don't forget Boston Legal is on tonight, and it's a new episode.

Send Private MessageThanks for the Boston Legal reminder - I did record it haven't viewed it yet. I'm impressed that you could update your blog after such a busy day - & i should warn you not to overtax your brain - i find conferences very suductive that way - you go to one interesting workshop after another and then before you know it - bam - your mind has gone numb. And you may well have noticed that in my case my mind never quite goes back to that alert attentive state that it used to be in all the time ;)
