I'm not sure if I am doing this right ...so I put the location in above as where we are now. Anyhoo, my wife, Jodi, and I will be taking off the 28th of March for Kampala, Uganda, Africa. Jodi has been to Uganda 4 times now and this is my first journey. God has been leading us to this point and we are both very excited about going. Our church home, First Lutheran Church in Baudette and the other 2 church's in Baudette Lutheran Parish, Clementson Lutheran, and Wabanica Lutheran, have been so supportive to us and the mission of Jak's Legacy. We are so thankful for the support because the success of our mission depends largely on donations and the stewardship of God's faithful. The mission is to build and operate an orphanage, clinic ... read more

Last night we slept over at Robert’s house in Portage La Prairie. It’s an airforce town and it very, very small. Poor Robert has had to live there for 2 years! It was so great to finally get some sleep as were driving for 15 hours. In the morning, Robert gave us an wonderful tour of his work. He flies helicopters for the military and it’s pretty cool. I realized just how difficult it has been for Robert to get to where he is. It’s not easy. I realized how lucky he is to be flying these helicopters as many people who actually work on the air crafts just really want to fly and only a small select few get the opportunity to be a pilot. The hangers where the aircrafts are held are impeccability clean. ... read more

Back up to the Wild On Thursday the 6th the four of us travelled us to Grand Marais for a long weekend of sledding and hanging out with the dogs. Linda and I first made a detour to the Vets to collect a ‘valuable’ substance from Phoneix! The Hedlund Breed are scarce and puppies are of great importance; One of Linda’s friends who lives in Alaska has a sister of Journey called Canyon (The journey litter was a BIG one!), and Canyon was coming into standing heat the weekend we were away. Now Phoneix has a BEAUTIFUL build and temperament and his puppies should…a big should! Be equally amazing so it has been planned for a while to breed him with Canyon. Only there is the slight problem of the distance….sooo…Phoenix’s ‘valuable’ substance had to ... read more

The Audubon Center The Audubon Center (er- not re as I so so wanted to spell it!) is a wildlife educational centre 2 hours north of Linda’s, only 20 minutes away from the best doughnut place EVER, Tobies :) The day before the four of us loaded the cube van with the sleds, food, water, harness, the lot! And sadly listened to the weather forecast which said that freezing rain was on its way….brilliant. We now wouldn’t be heading up to Grand Marais after the Audubon. Hailey then arrived in the evening all packed up for a 5 day trip to be told about the treacherous weather heading our way. Freezing rain occurs by warm atmospheric temperatures and cold ‘surface’ temps down in human land. The rain falls, then immediately upon impact freezes! And causes ... read more

A Very Merry Husky Christmas The run up to Christmas was a busy one this year! On Wednesday the 22nd we had two women come to have the 'Oak Lake' experiance. This is an 1 1/2 session whereby they meet the dogs, help collar the dogs, harness the dogs and have a 4-5 mile run sitting in the sled. Its a easy and nice way to experiance dog sledding (though nothing is like actually driving the sled! Its comparable to sitting in a car versus actually driving the car) and meet 14 beautiful huskies. Fourteen because Chris- another one of Linda's handlers however he is married with a child my age! So only pops in occasionally being busy with work- leant us Sasha for a week or so! Sasha is Wimzi's sister and is absoultly ... read more

Fights & New Arrivals On Monday Linda and I decided to take the dogs on another run! Now due to the huge snow blizzard/fall (5th worst since records began- just had to shove it in there!) the weight of the snow pushed down on the icy lake and cracks formed...so water seeped into said snow and thus slush formed! Slush is hard for the dogs to run in and hard for the poor human on the back to run alongside the sled to help the dogs! But we took our chances and went for it! As we were hooking the dogs up to the fence Phoneix growled at Oken as he walked past but Linda and I brushed it off as nothing....in forsight twas a baad move! We put the dogs onto the gangline, I ... read more

Home Alone! About a week ago Linda decided to go to New Hampshire to visit the puppies! Thus leaving me in charge....alone...for four days! She was due to fly on Thursday at 6:00am and began preparing me for my aloneness. However...Tuesday night a horrible revalation happened. We discovered the foot long bungee used to hold a door open in the Klaus/Oken/White feather kennel...had dissapeared! Completly vanished into thin air. Now I HAD noticed its disappearance the night before but stupidly thought Linda has removed it. NO. She had not! 'We HAVE to find it' She ordered after picking up one of the metal S rings thats on either end. (It was lying on the floor near a dog house) and I quickly began my search, first digging with my hands the edge of the kennel ... read more
