"Maybe the past is like an anchor holding us back. Maybe, you have to let go of who you are to become who you will be". Tomarrow I leave for Chile. I'm a confusing mixture of excited and nervous but am ready to leave. I'm still in the middle of packing despite starting at about 2 this afternoon but I have high hopes for finishing before midnight. It has been harder than I thought to say good-bye, not only to all the people here who have been such a huge part of my life but also to the life I've built [View Full Entry]

Last night was our un-official good-bye party at the Lyon's Pub downtown. It was incredibly fun, thank you to everyone who showed up. To my summmer volleyball crew (including Ryan), I love all of you guys and will miss our little gatherings whether that is football games, nights at Rosens or crazy cabin weekends. You are the only ones who can appreciate padooka pancakes, a ringing phone and the power of Lori. Remember...session two it's on and another trip in August. I'll miss you all. Lucky... To everyone who took the time to show up and wish us well, whether it's [View Full Entry]

Virtual interviewing pays off...I've been hired to work at La Universidad de Playa Ancha in Valpariso. I'll be in the International Center office and will help develop marketing plans to attract international students, provide support to foreign students at the university throughout the semester and promote current programs by contacting universities in the US, Japan, Germany, ect. I'll be sharing an office with another women and will have my own computer, telephone line/fax, internet connection and use of the office secretary. How the tables have turned! It sounds exactly like what I was hop [View Full Entry]

Well, I won't be leaving Mpls for awhile but I wanted to test out this travel journal and see how it worked. I'll be leaving for Vina del Mar, Chile on March 4th to do an internship program. Until then I'll be running all over town, trying to get everything ready and dealing with the logistics of leaving for an extended period of time. As much as it feels like time is dragging by, my to-do list before I leave has become a huge headache and is taking up most of my time. Insurance, vacinations, taxes and I still have to [View Full Entry]

I've decided to do a current journal and fill in South America steadily. Sorry that it's all over the place. After Curitiba when went up the Sao Paulo, for a night then ducked up to Rio for our plane to New York. We nearly froze when we got off the plane at 6am, but over the next few days covered most of what there is to see in the Big Apple. Lundy headed over to London on the 15th, so it was a bit strange saying bye in the subway after travelling for so long together. I will be glad however [View Full Entry]

It was a great feeling when I finished swimming across the Mississippi River, to fulfill my to-do-list-before-I-die. Even though it was at the Headwaters, MN, where the Mississippi River is only about 30 feet wide, but of course I did "Swim across the Mississippi River" (check). The Mississippi Headwaters is located in the Itasca State Park under the Minnesota Dept. of Natural Resources. There is a wooden sign to signify the headwaters, HERE 1475 FT ABOVE THE OCEAN THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI BEGINS TO FLOW ON ITS WINDING WAY 2552 MILES TO THE GULF OF MEXICO. If you are someone who enjoys the combination of travel and excersize I would reccommed trying the MS 150 bike ride. Every state in the Union offers a 150 mile bike ride that is fully supported and benifits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. [View Full Entry]

HMMM, this may be hard. I am going to try to go back 8 years (or is it 9 years?) and put together a blog for my travels since then. I realize now that I have been on sort of an eight (or nine?) year "journey" since I haven't lived anywhere longer than 6 months since the Spring of 1997. Has it really been that long??? Wow, "what a long strange trip it's been". I fear writing this because I’m sure I will miss times that I spent with some of you. This is more due to my bad memory and [View Full Entry]
