Today was a moving day…a big time moving day. We were on the road at 6 AM and 56 degrees and did not land until almost 5 PM (with a time change of one hour). We did not visit anything or take many photos…if you have seen one corn field, you have seen them all. First let me tell you about yesterday and last night. Have you ever heard of Sturgis? It is a small town off I-90 in South Dakota, just 30 minutes west of Rapid City. Every year they have a motorcycle rally that draws upwards of a million riders. It lasts for 10 days and in that time there are activities going on like concerts. There are 2-4 concerts each day for 10 days straight. Now Sturgis has a population of a whopping ... read more

THIS blog is about Rochester Minnesota, NOT Rochester NY, which is what everyone (including me) thinks of first. We went to Rochester for a Convention, and didn’t really expect too much from the little town. But, even if I had researched it and heard all about it, I probably wouldn’t have believed it anyway. It’s one of those places that’s "too good to be true". If someone told me: "wait till you go there - EVERYONE is nice", I would’ve been skeptical. And, granted, I didn’t meet all of the something-close-to 108,000 people who live there, but the ones that I did meet, lived up to the hype. Well, I made up the hype. I’ve just never been any place like it - a town filled with nice, friendly, helpful people. Apparently, Rochester has been included ... read more

07/22/2010 to 07/26/2010: Babbitt, MN: After 2 travel days we arrived in Babbitt (population 1600) and parked the motorhome in the parking lot of "Tank's", the local bar & restaurant. No water, sewer, electricity, tv or wifi. We're here for Terry's 45th class reunion and to re-visit the area where he grewup. Babbitt is in the nothern area of Minnesota, in the "Iron Range". The town was built by the mining company in order to draw workers to the tacanite mine. So all the houses are very similar and the town is nicely laid out - wide streets, big residential lots, several parks. Quite attractive. At it's peak, Babbitt had a population of around 2500. But the mine has closed, reopened, closed, and is now open again but not at anything close to what it was ... read more
