After a week in the Upper Peninsula of Mich. we were ready for some R&R.......yeah its pretty bad when you have to take a vacation from your vacation!!! We had phoned ahead a week ago and our friends Jeremy and Ali were expecting us. Tired and smelling like dirty hippies, we saddled up and made the trip in two days with a stop over in a local Walmart parking lot that served as our rest area. If for no other reason, we use Walmart parking lots as a semi-safe rest stop. (A) they usually wont mess with you because they want your business(B) 24 hour ones make it safe because they never close down and there are enough people there in case of emergencies. The only draw backs are the local red-necks who like to ... read more

I don't know why but for some reason I feel less safe in Minneapolis than I have in any other place on my travel. Perhaps it is because my first experience in the city was seeing a woman being arrested at the bus terminal of Mall of America, or perhaps that she was very loud and angry. Or maybe it is all the attention that I get from men on the bus. I seem to be a magnet in Minneapolis for weird guys who either really want to know where I am from and what I am doing, or who just like to stare. One guy who looked a whole lot like Steve Buscemi, spent half an hour on a bus asking me random questions, seemingly unaware of my resistant and single syllabus answers. The bus ... read more

The Twin Cities. Kind of like Arnold Swartzenegger and Danny DeVito. We stayed Friday night just outside St. Paul in a Motel 6, where we made a reservation at the only hostel we could find in the city for Saturday night. We passed out early from a long day of riding and got up pretty early Saturday to do a little exploring. First, we drove around the city of St. Paul for about an hour, before deciding that there wasn't much to see of interest. We started driving slowly toward Minneapolis on Mississippi River Boulevard, which traced the high banks of the mighty Mississippi as it splits the two cities apart. We stopped at a "Scenic Overlook" that was crowded with trees and brush and only offered a glimpse of the spill-over of a dam. We ... read more

We’ve had some absolutely great days with Jenny in Circle Pines, Minneapolis. Jenny has been the best hostess and we were really spoiled from day one. It’s impossible to describe all the wonderful experiences and memories of the days here, but here are a few. We celebrated the eighth birthday of Nicoline and Christopher – with visits to the “Mall of America”, and the making of a beautiful and delicious birthdaycakecastle. We have been on fun bikerides to the beach, ipad shopping with Elizabeth, fun with the walkie-talkies, talking all night, sleeping in, eating huge icecreams (making good on a thirty year old promise), walking tacos, root beer floats, listening to U2 live, starting a collection of quarters representing each of the 50 states and seeing amazing fireworks. Yesterday we visited the historic site, Fort Snelling, ... read more

... read more

The moment that I have been dreaming of for the past year has finally come! After endless days of work and study, it felt like this day would never arrive. Now it is finally here and I am wrapped up in a series of emotions that hit me like a roller coaster. At this immediate moment I feel anxious, excited, terrified but determined to plow through various obstacles. When I think about it the length of this trip seems extreme, but at the same time it will pass quicker than I can comprehend, and already am dreading the day I fly home (especially since it will be during Minnesota's horrific winter - lets hope i'll enjoy the snow this time! I expect this journey to be life changing. At this age I have been so ... read more

I have decided to try to maintain a travel blog in order to keep friends and family updated after being inspired by my friend Jessica's blog. It is just starting to hit me that I am just two weeks away from leaving for Europe! Mostly, it sank in because I began my summer homework today. Until then, I will be trying to study ahead while spending most of my time at It's Greek to Me serving in order to save up for this summer. Feel free to stop on by in these next couple of weeks. I'm also heading up to Duluth Saturday for a couple of days to say goodbye. The amazing thing about law school finals is that they completly distract you from planning any sort of trip. Hence I am still hashing out ... read more

The end of the vacation was much better than yesterday and the key disaster. The tow truck came, took the truck and Ed to the dealership. I headed over to the mall on the shuttle. The driver reeked of alcohol. For sure he was drunk, he asked me the same question twice. I really didn’t care. This is how I know I am starting to lose it. I needed $240 of Sephora treatment to get rid of the knot in my stomach. A few hours later we have a key to the truck! And only $130. Whew. Things are already looking up. Ed is talking to me again and my stomach has settled. And I did offer to go with the tow truck and to fix the mistake myself. Thank god I didn’t have to do ... read more
