Yesterday I got my contract from Concordia Language Villages, so it's official - I am working at the English language village (called "Hometown Europe") in Ftan, Switzerland this summer! It is from June 30th to August 3rd. I applied for jobs at both that village and the German language village (Waldsee, where I work during the school year), and decided that if I got offered jobs at both, I would take whichever one contacted me first. My job titles are "mentor counselor" and "store manager."
Ftan is a tiny little village of about 500 people near the border of Austria. It is in the Romansch region, meaning that the natives speak a dialect of a mix between French and German. The language used in business, though, is German. The majority of the kids at the camp will be from Italy, France, Switzerland (of course), Germany, and Austria. It will be cool to meet kids from all of those countries, plus the counselors come from Ireland, England, the US, and some are native German speakers but are proficient in English.
That's all I know about it so far; I've talked to the dean of the village on the phone a couple of times, and he seems very nice.
There are also English language villages (also part of Concordia Language Villages) in Brazil and in China. If I have summers available in the future, I will try for those.
Anyway, just wanted to update. Hope you're all doing well; I will write in here again soon, when my sister comes to visit for my graduation.
