Lots of thought has gone into deciding where to serve. About a year in the making!
My thoughts on any trip started when I returned from Spain when I was a study abroad student.
I knew that once I graduated, I wanted to serve oversees somewhere, but I did not know where.
Early on in my senior year, I came across an organization, Friends of the Orphans, also known as Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos. I put the org. in the back of my mind...not knowing if I would serve with them. There were many fabulous organizations and then also deciding which country to serve with.
However, amidst all the organizations out there, the select people God has placed in my life this past year as really been instrumental. Through unique circumstances and through key select people, I was led to Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos in Nicaragua. They have three homes in Nicaragua; two in Managua and one on the island of Ometepe. I opted for the city location, not wanting to battle loneliness and a remote location on the island. However, that is where God led me.
Knowing that serving in Nicaragua was instrumental in my decision, I also applied for teaching positions at two of the best schools in Nicaragua, and a Christian school. I also had connections in Pearl Lagoon, Nicaragua, Leon, Nicaragua, and Bluefield’s, Nicaragua. However, God led me to the organization Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos and to its home on the island of Ometepe.
Serving oversees is not something to be taken lightly. I am a recent college grad, just starting my life outside of school...I am very close to my family, and life’s circumstances after college have not been the most encouraging. However, amidst all the difficulties God has made me trust Him with, I have pushed through, preparing for my journey. Securing funds, getting support, packing, etc. Lots to do!!
Please continue to pray for me as I make my last arrangements to go to Nicaragua. I know that God will work through me in this and that He is instrumental in where I am. This country is very close to my heart and the type of work I will be doing is very close to my deepest values in life.
