Today's drive was pretty smooth. We were once again lucky and found a canceled campsite at Lebanon Regional Park to reserve. At check in she said we should play the lottery since that was the first open site she has seen in a long time. To top it off we have full hookups and a beautiful big site. Wish we had more time to stay and enjoy. Weather is cold again, low is 37 tonight so we decided to go to the Mall of America to stay a little warm instead of the sculpture park outdoors. We were overwhelmed by the Mall of America due to the number of stores, the sheer size and scale of the facility, not to mention the seven acre amusement park. The amusement park was the main attraction especially for all ... read more

DAY 5 - Friday, July 1, 2016 Mall of America - Bloomington, MN to Eau Claire, Wisconsin Kai woke up early to use the bathroom but it was fine because I texted Geoff before he left home to get to the airport. (the kids got sick of me singing, “The King is coming!”, too bad). What took the kids and I four days to drive (over 1,600 miles) will take Geoff 2 airplane rides, 1 light rail, and less than 4 hours. Planes, trains, and motorhomes. :) I can’t wait to see him - and give him the keys - and a big kiss! But while we wait the kids were ready for some roller coaster fun. Apparently Subway restaurants in Minnesota all have discount coupons to the Nicolodean fun park - all except the Subway ... read more

Day 4 - June 30, 2016 Boy it feels great to wake up and be able to shower without using quarters! This has been our favorite campsite so far. And even though I still woke up early we don't have to hit the road right away because Bloomington, MN is only about 4 hours away. Mary is most excited! But we're all reading up about the mall and looking forward to it. We're not huge shoppers but we love touristy attractions and rides, etc. So Mall of America will be a fun experience! Kai said it sits on over 96 acres of land! Disneyland in California sits on 80+ acres. I was in Bloomington back in 1995 when I lived in Minnesota for two months of youth director training so Geoff and I have been there ... read more

It was as if we were home being woken up early by Coby like every other Saturday morning. Why can't we sleep in on vacation? While eating breakfast David decided to come up with some Indian jokes. A few examples below: Where do Indians put their dirty clothes? laundry bindian Why did the Indians get out of the ocean? They saw a shark findian Indians don't have ancestors, they have kindians. Who is an Indian's favorite basketball player? Jeremy Lindian Okay, okay, that's all for now... :) After breakfast we needed to take a slight detour to a minute clinic. My eyes were itching like crazy and swollen. A half hour and $50 later I'm told it's probably allergies. Funny, since I've never had allergies. -_- Finally, we are on our way. This leg of the ... read more

Oliver loves LEGO. He builds nearly all day, every day, and he's gotten really good. He does chores sometimes to earn money, and he saves up for sets. He's only 5.5, but he can build LEGO sets himself now--even big sets! We didn't tell him about the giant LEGO store in the Mall of America until we arrived. He was thrilled! And when he found out his Grandma and Grandpa would let him pick out a LEGO set, he asked if he could get Emmet's Construct-o-Mech. He looked at every set in the whole store, but he knew what he wanted! Jo was happy to pick out a Frozen LEGO set (Elsa's sparkling ice castle). She builds little things out of LEGO blocks, too, but obviously she can't do LEGO sets on her own yet. After ... read more

This morning we continued our drive up the Mississippi River on the Great River Road. We stopped in Red Wing, Minnesota for a latte. It is the home of Red Wing Shoes which are still being made here. We crossed over to the Wisconsin side once more and stopped in the town of Prescott where the Saint Croix River flows into the Mississippi. You can see the distinction between the two rivers for some distance downstream of their confluence because the clear water of the Saint Croix doesn't immediately mix with the muddy Mississippi. ( I admit that this is a little difficult to discern in the photo, but trust me, it's true.) After that we drove into the Twin Cities, or more precisely, we drove to Bloomington. We wanted to see the Mall of America, ... read more
