We quickly left the Badlands behind and headed on the longest drive ever to Minneapolis. All there was to mention was the Corn Palace visit (yes a building that is mainly made up by corn - and bricks) and lunch at Dairy Queen. When we reached the campsite, Todd and Zach told us that Minnesota is the lake of ten thousand lakes, which meant there were a hundred thousand insects to go with it! And they weren't wrong. We soon found ourselves struggling to deal with the insects as our camp was right by a lake.
Even getting out of the sanctuary of the van to get dinner and back resulted in many itches and I'm sure some bites.
I was in there with Zach, Kristina and Joanna, and I had a good chat with the girls for the first time on the tour. They really were sweet and talkative, as we talked about their plans after the summer, Kristina was going home to University, whilst Joanna was going to spend a year in Ireland as a nanny. They also asked about my plans, and I reeled of my idea of taking up a OU course on psychology, or perhaps moving away somewhere with a new job. I told them that the possibilities were endless for me.
Zach was stuck in the van as his feet seemed to have got worse and was really down about them. Having been in a similar situation back in Key West I tried to reassure him and encourage him, but it didn't seem to work.
Having finally had enough of the fecking insects, Todd asked if we minded heading to Chicago overnight, which none of us did. He just needed to get enough sleep to legally drive again that day - but don't tell anyone!
Todd and some others tried to get some sleep somewhere, whilst Annabel and I tried in the van, but kept getting interrupted by Sumi going in and out of the van every few minutes or so. Steve, Zach and Scott were outside having giving up trying to get out of the insects, and were just drinking and smoking, which actually seemed to get rid of the bastards, and had a right laugh when Sumi tried to get back in the van only to find that she had somehow been locked out. Todd must of had enough of the constant interruptions as he slept in the trailer.
After struggling to sleep through the interruptions and the sheer heat, Annabel and I had a little chat about nothing particular.
