howdy friends -

we wanted to let our people (that's you!) know that our bike tour is going well...we're about half way through and still enjoying the riding, farming, and meeting new and interesting people. We've been keeping a running blog going at www.glbconference.org/csatour2006/ and I know many of you have been following us there, but we thought a little "howdy" through these convenient means wouldn't hurt.

We're currently on a detour from the tour - back in the Ann Arbor area for a series of weddings - but we will return to our bikes in Grant, MI (30 miles north of Grand Rapids) the week of the 21st, and will continue our northward journey, hopefully to arrive in Petoskey by the end of October.

And how's everyone else? Being a "community of two" on the road has it's challenges sometimes, so we'd love to hear from you...drop us a line at: hellerm@msu.edu or ferrares@msu.edu

all the best,

Marty and Michelle

This Mexico journey is the first leg of our "year on," a much needed break between farming projects. We'll post photos and entries when we can - we're glad to share our adventures with all of you! This adventure is dedicated to the memory of Michelle's grandmother, Alice Della Sheall Nelson, 1915-2006.... full info

community
Glad to hear that your community of two is holding together and enjoying this journey together. Except for that one bad stretch of oppressive heat the weather gods have been good to you, right? If you get any leads on organic blueberries let us know! You two are the ones to ask. We have orders into two different farmers who couldn't fill our order. We NEED organic blueberries :-))

Great to hear from you
Hi- Emily, Celeste, and I have had great fun this past year working onYouth Farm Stands. Six new communities have come on board, making us want to be out in those towns all the time. (Can you tell that "cubical heaven" is an oxymoron? Emily will be working at the SOF full time come next Jan., so we have another person who will be working with us and the six new communities. I was in Minneapolis in Sept. talking with LOTS of folk about community food stuff... and using the community food profile. It was for the Grassroots and Commonground confernece sponsored by the Northwest Foundation in MN. So, how will you ever settle for living in-doors? I forsee a warm climate and lots of outdoor space for you two. S
