Us Eating and Drinking
Us Eating and Drinking
A meal in a dodgy chain steakhouse called Applebees. Sharon orders buffalo chicken.
Hi everybody, So what have we been up to since Christmas?? well unfortunately our lives in the new world have had to adjust to the daily drudgery of working for me (cal) and a mixture of studying and general housewifery for Sharon… Living off a single income in one of the most expensive cities on America has proven to be a little tougher than we first imagined (Insert violins here). Chris (Chumley to all who know him) and Mairi-Louise came over to stay for a week around New Year. It was really good to see them and hear a Scottish accent [View Full Entry]

Melissa does some last second mental checking of the goods...
Here we are! After more than a year in the planning, we've finally reached day 0 of what we'll call from here onward "The Trip" (very mysterious, yes?). We spent the last 2 days before leaving on a 6 pm flight to LA furiously packing, organizing, and last minute wedding planning. It was like being on call for your life, with a steady stream of action coming in the door and not enough time or nurses to take care of it all. We stayed awake for these last 2 days, not because we were trying to get a crazy adrenaline-junkie start [View Full Entry]

In her cocoon ...

Pondering out the window
Pondering out the window
I had a lot of pros and cons to consider, but I feel confident about the decision I made.
Well, the final decision is in. I am going to be spending at at least the next two years of my life in Sapporo, Japan. It's been a couple of intense, mind boggling days here at the job fair in Massachusetts. In the end the decision came down to a school in Thailand and my new home school in Japan. I will be living in the pristine great white north island of Hokkaido. It snows all the time there creating a veritable winter wonderland. I was told that they only close school if they have more than three feet of snow [View Full Entry]

Afterward

Harvard Square Hotel Cambridge Last summer we went to Cambridge, Mass to visit an old college friend. He wanted us to come up and he even paid for the plane ticket for us to see him, but wouldn’t let us know what the trip was for. He reserved a great room at a Cambridge inn called Mary Prentiss Inn, which was also the name of the street it was on. It was a nice Inn. Kind of felt like a Bed and Breakfast with 20 rooms, but had all the modern amenities of a hotel. When we settled in he drove [View Full Entry]

I LOVE NY!!!! Spent a few days there now, and wow what a city... So much to see and do, could never get bored there.. For those of you who don't know, I started a little trip. First stop NY, and now I'm in Boston visiting my grandma who I didn't see for years! In 2 weeks I'm meeting up with Jenny, a friend from Stockholm, and we'll spend a month in Costa Rica! Some lazy days on the beach, then off hiking in the jungles, diving as much as possible and lots of salsa dancing on top of that.. After [View Full Entry]

Same Boston lake..

I’m currently preparing to spend four months in China. Four months in a spectacular country having the experience of a life time. I have six days of honors and AP classes that I have to finish up early before I only have to deal with regular English and Chinese. I have eight days before I disappear, leaving family and friends to enter a slight time warp of exploration before adulthood and college sneak up on me like a banjo in a dark forest. I will leave the joys of the internet behind (my fantasies of spending thirty minuets an afternoon snuggled [View Full Entry]

Well, we're in Cambridge, Mass., on family visiting holidays. We've covered Boston for nine days. We've hit the hot spots - especially the Mapparium. We'eve been downtown, north end, the big dig, Harvard Square, and the ever fabulous Druid in Inman Square, home of the best waitress this side of Australia. Yesterday was Marblehead, beautiful as ever. Today it's the Sam Adams Brewery. The tale of the southern cross and boomerang campaign on the Australian East Coast begins in a week. Stay tuned. We depart at 6pm and I have been having trouble sleeping for two days. As I wrote in my other journal, India has always caused the dual emotions of fear and fascination, sometimes for the same reason. I have read about and will try to understand the things that bother most first-worlders when they visit, but will that understanding prevent me from having a knee-jerk reaction? A humorous example - I can understand the concept of a Holy Cow and be prepared to see cows, but when that cow rams me in the butt (as happened to a friend of mine), [View Full Entry]
