So the reason I haven't written in a while is because that tropical storm "Beryl" from my last entry devastated the Island and we've only just restored basic services to the Island....ok not really. The dreaded tropical storm turned out to be about 15 mins of light rain, followed by a beautiful morning. The real reason I haven't made an update is because I have either been out of town or hosting one of the many visitors to this Island paradise.
The first out-of-town adventure took me to Atlanta for the first visit to C-Vegas/Cartersville since I left in June. Two nights in the ATL followed by an early morning trip to Charlotte, NC had me going thru 'Ground Security Coordinator' training for US Airways. Not wanting to stay in one location very long I was on the flight to Athens less than an hour after training ended and I'd received my completion certificate (which I've since framed and have in a high profile location in my house). The visit to Athens was almost as short arriving at 9pm on a Wed leaving 6pm the following day. Got to hang with the VC crew who I miss with un-ending sadness
Striking a poseThe lighting was perfect, the location ideal, the features striking...how could you not take a picture?
everyday and even gave a tour of campus...don't worry, I haven't lost my edge! T
hen onward to DC to crash at Michael Gray's apt and go out in Georgetown riding tandem on Mike's moped. (wish I had a picture of this). The next day we braved the hordes of passengers at Washington Reagan Airport and made it back to the Island safely. As Michael was enjoying the Island, UGA's very own Queen Sarah Cherry decided to grace us with her presence along with her gentleman friend, Teddy. My birthday was marked by a double shift at work and fraternity brother Nick Nolan arriving on Island via a buddy pass and I didn't really work a full double shift as I snuck off to the beach with Nick for about two hours as a flight was cancelled and there was nothing happening at the airport...don't tell my boss, she was in Hyannis that day!
That same week Sarah Cherry decided that it was time for a return visit bringing along her entire entourage which consisted of Teddy, her two younger sisters, Vicki and Laura, and Vicki's friend Jacques from GA Tech. We spent all day Saturday sailing around
Watching the SunsetWhat an attractive group of people. Drinking beer and enjoying the sunset at Lambert's Cove Beach
Mememsha and hanging at the beach. It was a great day but some of the less seasoned beachgoers got a bit too much sun. Nicole Wider arrived just as the sailboat had been tied up for the evening and all eight of us piled into the company mini-van for dinner at Homeport. Group couldn't have picked a better weekend to visit as my roommates were in Hawaii using their flight benefits and I had the house and car to myself.
All except Nick and Nicole left Sunday afternoon and I unfortunately had to work the remainder of their visit but we still found time to hit the beach and jump off of the State Beach Bridge (featured in the movie Jaw's). Nicole departed on Wed via a buddy pass I'd managed to snag on Cape Air and rode in the copilot's seat up to Boston to catch her connecting flight. After working an early shift on Thursday I began my odyssey to Jacksonville, FL for Rob and Jess Finch's wedding, but that is a whole other entry! Back on-Island enjoying the amazing August weather that is cool at night and warm and dry every day. Working lots of hours
Playing With CameraSo we discovered the 'sport' setting on the camera and decided to take it for a spin.
but still having a great time.
Sailing K Scott and Cherry wading out to the boat for a cruise.
Cherry+Beach+Beer=FunOn our private beach in Menemsha...at least it was private until these other people with a boat showed up.
Jaw's Brige JumpingSo I'm really proud of my backflip...it took about 10 tries but Nicole finally managed to get one with the camera.

Your pictures are great, and your stories even greater. The sunset on Lambert's Cove is my favorite...as James Taylor wrote in a song years ago, "out to the west of Lambert's Cove...there is a sail out in the sun. I'm coming home I'm very sure...I've come home to stop yearning." Glad to know that your memories are getting better as the months go by. August is...by far...the best of the summer. And then there is September!!!!! That, Kevin, will be the best~ cool nights, crisp blue skies....and sunsets that linger long into the night! Love, Mom
