We are fortunate to be occasional guests with our long time friends (we met when our children, now in their 40's were enrolled in Nursery School in Burnt Hills) at their home in East Falmouth, MA. The house had been a delightful summer "playhouse" for generations of the family before Doc did an extreme make-over to make it an even more delightful year round home for the couple to retire to. Paula dragged me out shopping. I was kicking and screaming; but she is so persuasive! Our first port of call was a bit of a disappointment as it was Monday and like so many antique shops, consignment boutiques and restaurants across the nation - that could only mean that "Close Call Consignment Shop at 630 Palmer Avenue was CLOSED. We peeked in the windows, admired ... read more

To state the obvious, if you plan to go to Quisset, you need to know where it is. From the water, you will see no sign of it until you are quite close. Once you have caught sight of the outer buoy (and perhaps spotted the masts in the harbor) the entrance is easy. Quisset consists of three little harbors nested inside each other. There are rental moorings throughout all three harbors but you will most likely find an empty mooring in the middle of the three harbors, just before you reach Buoy #8. We have never needed to use a mooring in the outermost harbor but it looks as though it might get a bit rolly when there are South or East winds. The rental buoys have a number on them plus a blue stripe. ... read more

We are in Quisset harbor. We have towed our little blue dinghy all the way to Boston and back and the main reason for this is Quisset. This is a delightful little place but, while it does have rental moorings, it does not provide launch service so we need our dinghy to get ashore. They pack a lot of boats into this little harbor and everyone needs a dinghy. So there are roughly twice as many dinghies as there is dock-space for them ... :-) Apart from the lovely little harbor and the small boatyard that maintains the moorings, there is no commercial activity in Quisset. Just a lot of lovely old houses. And the Whoosh Trolley. If you walk up the hill from the boatyard to the traffic lights on the main road, the Whoosh ... read more

What a wonderful trip this has been. We’ve been deciding which town, villages, and cities to visit, based on our areas of particular interest, location of Guy’s relatives, DK book descriptions, Triposo App. on our IPad and available motorhome services at Stellplatz sites or ASCI campsites. We have found delightful towns, large and small, tucked away in isolation in valleys and farmlands. Fulda was a wonderful surprise with a stellplatz near city center. We enjoyed an audio tour that made the town history and photographic sites come alive. We were able to tour the Dom, cathedral, churches, museums, abbeys and bakeries and finally to enjoy an unusual organ concert at a local school. This organ was originally built in 1879 and has been destructed, partially burned, and reconstructed several times. It has been gifted, ungifted, re ... read more

In My Footsteps Christopher Setterlund Trip 1: Falmouth & Woods Hole January 7, 2010 Falmouth and Woods Hole are two must-sees for any Cape Cod traveler. Falmouth has plenty of stores and restaurants but those can be seen in any town. What I was most interested in were the beaches and historical places that both Falmouth and Woods Hole possess. The best way to discover and appreciate the natural beauty of Falmouth is to take a drive down Shore Street to Surf Drive. The aptly named Surf Drive Beach(below, left) stretches out for nearly a half mile, overlooked across the street by quaint homes and lovely inns and small motels. For those coming from further away needing sleeping accommodations; Shore Haven Inn and Beachside Village sport a tremendous view of the rocky, seaweed strewn beach. The ... read more
