It's funny when you pack to leave a place what you decide is most important and must stay until the end and what you feel is really superfluous and can be put into storage at any time. I've decided that the kitchen table is really an extra at this point that does nothing but hold items that have gotten lost on their way to their boxes. A place for the household goods that are fighting the captivity of the storage unit and standing their ground on the kitchen table. Well I have quashed their rebellion by doing away with the kitchen [View Full Entry]

Dear All, There are so many schools in the Worcester, Massachussetts area. I was able to drive through two (Clark University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute) before heading to my first visit, College of the Holy Cross. Website pictures did not deceive me; Holy Cross’ campus is as pretty as advertised. I encourage you to visit. COLLEGE OF THE HOLY CROSS If you have time before or after an admissions office visit, I encourage you to connect with a professor, coach or other person of interest at a school where you may have a specific interest. Call, in advance, if you can. [View Full Entry]

Yes, that's what you do in Boston. You walk. I didn't post yesterday as planned due to exhaustion. We are about ready to head out so I'll let the pictures do the talking and I'll do the walking. [View Full Entry]

Well, we decided to take a really laid back attitude about this trip and may have gone to far. We left our cash at home. We realized it at the airport and thought, how hard can it be to find a branch bank and get some cash? Well, Massachusetts doesn't have a Washington Mutual. Who knew? All's well that ends well, for a small fee, it was really easy to get cash from an ATM. We are usually so well prepared we've never had to do that before. Other than that, we had a really good day. We had a good [View Full Entry]

Our day started with breakfast at the hotel (scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes, cereal, fruit, yogurt, waffles, etc.). After breakfast we were off to Boston’s North End (the oldest part of the city). We toured the Old North Church where Paul Revere and William Dawes looked to see if there was one lantern or two (one if by land, two if by sea). The church was amazing! Instead of pews or chairs, families rented partially enclosed booths. Families could show their status in the community by renting a booth close to the pulpit. Much like sports seats, the better booths cost [View Full Entry]

Granary Burying Ground
Up and at em! First thing in the morning we stopped at the Granary Burying Ground on our way to the T. Here we saw the graves of some of the signers of the Declaration of Independence decorated by the Sons of the Revolution. We took the T to South Boston to visit the John F Kennedy Library and Museum. This is the first trip Alex and I made to a Presidential Library and it is the only Presidential Library in New England. We opted for the guided tour but the tour guide was young (1985!), this was only the 2nd [View Full Entry]

Hi family and friends! Well, we finally made it and are settled in. It was a very long day as you can imagine, which is why this will be a short blog entry :) We all arrived on time and with no problems! We did a little sight seeing in Boston, ate dinner at Quincy Market and did a little shopping. We had a change in plans regarding the fireworks. Becuase of the number of people that would be in Boston and our long day, we opted for the fireworks in Salem, MA. The display was incredible and the syphony that [View Full Entry]

Alex and I sporting our new jackets from Boston. It was a bit chilly!
We left Hartford early to head for the 4th of July festivities in Boston. We drove to Newton, MA, parked and took the T to downtown. We stopped by the hotel to see if we could check in early. We had no luck with this but I was happy that I was able to confirm the room and the bedding. (The woman at the desk knew me from my phone calls. The Omni took liberties with my reservation two times and I did have to call each time to fix the unauthorized changes.) We stayed at the Omni Parker House. It [View Full Entry]

So, you know what they say about all the best set plans... okay, I don't know what they say about all the best set plans, but I've come to understand that there is some sort of glitch in every single big trip that I plan - and I'm hoping that this was it. Yesterday, I was released from a 3-day, 2-night stay at the hospital... my diagnosis isn't worth posting here, but obviously it wasn't what you'd call a good time. Not to mention, yes, it did mean a delay in my departure for Europe. Go figure. So, I'm back to [View Full Entry]
